Are your meals clean year around?

If a person really wants to bulk up and have a very good offseason do they eat clean year around?

I NEVER eat clean during the offseason but I'm hearing that the up and coming bodybuilders are.

So how does this work? I recently heard I'm suppose to FIRST get the amount of protein that my body needs to grown with clean foods.

Once I get the protein my body needs, the remaining of the day I can eat what ever I want.

Example, morning have a clean breakfest, two hours later another clean meal, two or three hours another clean meal and so forth till I get ( in my case) 400 grams of protein.

Once I'm done I can have my cup cakes, pizza or what ever. From what I was told I'd barely want to eat much junk cuz I'd be full from all the meals I had early.

What do u guys think?

Or do u just say "F**K it and go out "old Lee Priest style?"

I'd love to hear PHIL HERNON comments too.

Some eat clean year round, I eat clean once per year. For lunch I had a nachos bell grande, a taco and two barbecue sandwiches. That's growth food. Nah, I do believe it's best to eat healthy all the time, but I damn sure can't do it. I love crap....crap, crap, crap.

Hell i'm with you. I love to eat. I mean I LOVE to eat. Nothin' makes me more happy than eating a turkey sand with a cup cake. Or Try Turkey Sand with Apple Sauce, lol.

TO eat clean year around, just stick to these sources: lean beef, chicken, fish, turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, brown rice, oats, fruit, eggs, olive oil, fish oil, nuts Set up your nutrition plan similar to the way you do when you prep just with excess calories coming mostly from carbs....I eat clean about 99% of the time with a scheduled high carb day during the week where not so clean sources are used, but fat is kept minimal.

Let me ask. With your offseason eating do u find it difficult to pack on weight in the range of 280lbs ( offseason)? Also would u consider having cheat meals but only during the weekend or do you stay mainly clean?

Also can you give me some examples of "good" clean meals you make that are clean BUT taste good too? Help a brotha out cause I have to get some good tasting food during the offseason.

Do u eat turkey sandwiches any subway, sloppy joes? I mean you can make that with lean ground beef, right?:(

lean what?

I never eat just bad crap but in the bulking times i incorporate some junk for calories. what has worked for me is what hella swole is saying stay within those food groups for bulking and when you cut up for comp then you really are just eating what is planned. you eat the same crap at the same time every day of the prep. eveyone's metabolism is different. I think that the type you fall into deterimines the amount of slack allowed in a diet.

off season eating

now granted im only 220lb but i have been as high as 242lb a few years ago, what i find works best for me in trying to regain the lost muscle after my layoff is AT LEAST 2g protein per lb of bodyweight, moderate carbs and mod to high fat(good fats). i eat whatever i want on saturdays before 5pm, but am careful to get my 400g pro. also on my three weight training days, after my 120g cho / 75g pro shake i have what ever low fat high gi carbs i want(1 hour after shake) along with low fat protein. such as low fat sponge cake and whey, noodles / fish and bread or any snack food. the rest of the day i eat high pro/ high fat NO GI meals to control insulin.
so i still feeel im getting what want very often and ive no excuse to get fat at all bro

i'm going to try my "eat clean till I reach my 400 grams of pro" then dog down on what I want to eat.

I think that approach will work good with me. I mean I'd only get two "bad" meals per day cuz i'd be too full from the previous "clean" meals I had early through out the day.

This is me two months back. I'm 265lbs. I'd like to reach 285 290lbs with this same condition. Is this too fat?

Oh, I can tell you what Phil will say! Ha. Eat clean year round. He is disciplined like that. I am not. But I am working on it. Actually, I do pretty well until I stop training for some reason. I don't know what it is but if I don't train in the gym, I have a tendency to say screw it and eat whatever I want.

I'm curious to hear what others do. I've trained as a natty my whole life, so I always felt like I had to eat clean b/c I couldn't afford to cheat. When I'm training and lifting that is. I remember hanging out with friends who weren't natural and those guys always ate whatever they wanted. Man I used to get so jealous! I've gotten over that now. I try to eat clean b/c its the healthy thing to do. I have more energy and I just feel better. A good rule of thumb is that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. So if you can make it 21 days, it gets a lot easier. Still. Its not easy preparing 5-6 meals everyday year round. So, I do the protein powder and oatmeal thing most of the day. Just measure everything out and put them in baggies every morning.

During OFF season I eat high calorie,,,I keep meal clean until I get daily protein, carb requirements and then it's a food free for all.

Nute,
I think you look good. I do not think you are out of shape at all for trying to bulk up. Good luck.

what i find works best for me in the off- season is not so much the whole carbs/protien/fats/calories counting, but the type of carb i injest, when i take it, and what i take with it.

for example, the only time thorught the day i take in hi g.i carbs is the first meal post workout. the rest of the day is all low g.i carbs should i have them.

utilizating a carb cut off time will also help you not gain as much fat as you bulk. make the second meal after your workout your last carb meal of the day, again using lo g.i carbs.

also if i am going to eats carbs i try to not injest fats with them at the same time. try to keep meals either protein/fat or protein/carb, not protein/carb/fat.

so to answer your question, yes by all means eat your sloppy joes. use super extra lean ground beef and strain it and use whole wheat buns instead of white...

see what im getting at here- it isnt so much the calories that make you fat, but the types and the timings.

jmo.

hope this helps.

not nearly in the class as 99% of u guys, but i do believe bodybuidling is partly about living a healthy lifestyle...i think eating healthy year round is the best way to treat your body for the long haul

with my limited budget, I just do my best to get in protein (clean or not) during the day, I am in permanent off-season status until I see myself at a point where I can compete.

I'm going to try your approach. Every year I eat what I want and now i'm sick of getting that fat gut i normally get. I mean you can only hold your stomach in while walking around the office so much.

I like the idea of eating clean to get your daily protein and carb requirements. Thereafter, LOOK OUT. If I found I'm getting too fat from that approach I'll take it down to one cheat meal every three days.

Thanks guys.

Jerry wha' up guy? Hey I know you're not too far from me. I'm thinking if you want we can hook up and probably you, me, your girl and my wife can hook up for a movie or dinner. I'll hit you up.

Im trying the clean food approach. I feel good while eating clean off-season. I can eat more often and not feel so full and bloated and lethargic. I feel like I cant gain weight at all, due to my metabolism so Maybe I should set up a scheduled cheat meal, day etc.... I just would love to stay lean while slowly putting on mass this year without so much damn unecessary water and body fat. I hope I havent tapped out my genetics this young. I am 100 lbs heavier than I was 5 years ago? Shit, I was hopin to hit 100 more in the next 10 years.

I enjoy cooking and food too much to eat clean all year. Unless I have a goal to lose fat, then I will eat freely.

I eat clean on training days when I am using slin. On my non training days I eat as clean as possible but also add in allot of high protein cheat meals with a carb cut of point. I think it is allot easier to put on muscle when you add a little fat on aswell. Its hard to push your body weight to 280 with clean food.
