Active Release Technology - has anyone tried it? if so, any feedback, good or bad? thinking about going in for my shoulders, but it's expensive ($250 initial consult/session, $150 each session thereafter).
I've been having ART for about 3 years now. Mostly on my neck and shoulders. My personal experience has been very positive. It significantly helps my mobility and eliminates/reduces pain. I found that after a few visits, you need to go less. I'd recommend trying it a couple times. Mine was covered under my insurance though.
They have to be ART therapists!! It is a special technique that only people schooled in ART can perform. Look it up on the net. You can find all kinds of ART therapists in any area of north america!!
My DO, who specializes in chronic pain, is a certified ART therapist. I'd guess those who specialize in pain therapy would add this to their therapies.
My guy is actually an MD. And there are different certifications for ART too. It is so specialized that you need a certification for torso, arms, legs, and neck seperatly.
Check out www.activerelease.com to find a practitioner in your area. The one in my area is a chiropractor and my training partner used him quite successfully. The sessions were $35 ea.
It depends on the nature of the injury. ART is a good place to start if the injury isn't "serious". I went through ART treatments and found it gave temporary relief, ~48 hours, but after a year they finally discover a torn supraspinatus. So the ART therapy wasn't the answer in my case.
You must live in a large metro area, as I would have to agree those prices look quite steep.
