For those of you on a bèta blocker:

How has it affected your training? I'm thinking in terms of breathing better/worse, pumps affected, sweating less ...?

(I've just been put on one due to heart palpitations, nothing serious but obviously better if avoided + and above all, highly disturbing! Certainly nothing related to AAS or other drugs since I've had these basically all my life.)

My doc gave me the option to get on them but said my palpitation was benign, so I skipped them. Let me know how they effect you, becasue the palpitations suck. Scary stuff.

When I was on them (Coreg) it affected my heart rate, meaning it kept it lower at rest and cardio- I didn't like that, it had no effect on lowering my HR when training heavy and fast so go figure.

Dose dependant usually.

They make me tired and heart rate is about near impossible to get over 130 bpm during exercise. Its all for the best though. Beta blockers do save lives. I need them in my case because of my heart failure. THey help control arrythmias as well as keep BP down. If you are having palps, I would take it. My dose is 80 mg/day of coreg, which ive been told is the max. Im sure you are taking nowhere near that.

My doctor called them 'a healthy medicine' and seemed to insinuate that everyone should get on them. Either way, I'm on Bisoprolili 5mg which I'm sure as you said maldorf is a light dose.

Will keep you informed eric!

Apart from the palpitations, what's possibly more worse is that my heart rate is constantly too high. I hover around 90 in rest. I had this even while doing boatloads of cardiovascular training for army recruitment a few years back so it has nothing to do with not being conditioned or something.

I am on bystolic 5mg for tachycardia. I have not really noticed anything, except for bringing my heart rate down to where it should be.

Im sure you were checked out, but did they give you an ultrasound of your heart at least? To make sure that your ejection fraction and heart function is normal as far as pumping ability? If the heart is not pumping efficiently your body will compensate by raising heart rate to increase cardiac output to where it should be. Just wondering what is causing the tachycardia. Did he have an answer for that?

I've had a few ultrasounds over the years and all were ok. I was given no explanation for the rapid heart rate except that, she said its probably genetics since both of my parents have it somewhat as well (both on bèta blockers too).

They adversely effected my training (shortness of breath, lowered intensity) and they caused night sweats. I no longer use them routinely but I will use them occassionaly to lower an excessive resting heart rate or to treat a migraine.

Have to say, had my first training on today and it went smoothly! Heart rate obviously stayed lower but this is a good thing for me, I was actually able to breathe better.

I think the lower intensity you mention might just be perceived intensity since obviously a less pounding heart will make you think you went at it less hard. An obese man will likely find walking very intense and get out of breath etc and I think we can all agree that walking is not intense.

Imo the same holds true with stimulants, you PERCEIVE your workout to be more intense because of all the fight or flight reactions but is it really? I doubt it

Longer term they make it difficult for me to manage body fat. Not weight, just fat. Probably due to their impact on epinephrine and norepinephrine. Depending on your situation however they are an absolute life saver.
