Bike for Cardio

Is doing the stationary bike for cardio worth doing? I do either sprints..uphill walking as hard as possible..or elliptical for my current cardio. Any positives for doing the bike? ...i have always felt that its a lesser quality cardio excercise than the above ones. What do you think?

RONJON

I think as long as its hard cardio, your cool. shoot, I speed walk on a treadmill after my workout and I'm huffing and puffing like a first time smoker. lol, so I guess it's just to your level, you might be at a high cardio threshold so the bike would be tough to stay at the intensity level you need to.

I'm going to say do the bike... I'm a little biased, because I think the elliptical sucks. I am a cyclist, that's why. Real men ride a bike. That and the girls will have to be pulled off of your enormous thighs. I pity the fool!

yea i need to do INTENSE cardio so just wanting to know if this will be acceptable...without gettin my legs so sore it affects my heavy leg workouts? hmmm guess ill just try it and see

I only do the bike, running makes my legs raw.
I do it hard and fast, proabley no less than 85 RPM and most of the time 90, at the end I sprint into the 100s.

I am gunna try it next week bro for sure thanks

IMO, The staionary bike will work your legs more than cardio, that is why I like to do 15 minutes right b4 my leg routine. I like the Lifestep machine, but nothing will burn fat faster than running. I just can't do much at my age.

yea thats what i was worried about..too much of working the legs..:(

How much can you really work it with the bike?
I'm huffing hard and my legs are burning when I'm done..I might switch to the elp soon though and give it a try.

RONJON,

For pure cardio, ease on your body, and
results, I think it is hard to beat a bicycle
(indoor or out).

Right now, I do strictly cardio 3X per
week, Tuesdays and Thursdays; I either
hike or ride a street bike for a couple of
hours. And on one day of the weekend,
my wife and I will do a longer hike or ride.

But if I can't be outside on the week days and
I'm vanquished to the gym, this is what I do.

First a word about "spin" bikes. You can't
compare a spin bike to an average stationery
bike, they’re so different. Spin bikes have a
weighted fly-wheel in the front mimicking
the feel of an outdoor bike that’s actually
propelled by the pedals. When you tighten
the resistance and come out of the saddle,
you absolutely feel like you’re cycling up
a steep hill. And most importantly, spin
bikes are built for the rider to come out of
the saddle and grind on the pedals.

Here is the process . . .

First; find a spin bike.

Second; remove the seat and seat post,
making it impossible to sit down

Third; raise the handle bars all the way up
and out

Fourth; place your feet in the pedals (and
tighten harness if clipless)

Fifth, stand and pedal

Sixth; adjust the resistance to 60 - 90 RPM's

Seven; pedal, do not sit, for one hour

It's a good mental and physical exercise.

When I'm finished with this exercise (and I'm
fairly lean and muscular, the veins in my legs
and calves standout in bold relief naturally),
my legs and veins are pulsing and throbbing
like nobodies business and it's difficult to stand.

Try it, you just might like it.

seems like it might be hard to get mine hands on one..but i would love to try this
