Bodybuilders making kids fat?

There was a show on last night saying that competetive bodybuilders are making niave young men fat. They say most young kids do not know that Pros use AAS and think they get that big by eating huge amounts of food and taking loads of powders and supps. This is making many kids obese since they are eating way more than they need to put on muscle.
They showed this one kid who gained 50 lbs in 3 months. This other kid almost 30 lbs in 6 wks by drinking gallons of whole milk a day.
The point was that mags and bodybuilders need to be up front with the public so that they are not promoting an unhealthy life style and adding to the obesity epedemic. The segment made no sense on how letting young men know about AAS is going to promote a healthy lifestyle. People always need to take things to the extreme.
It was like the people that were saying eating 6-8 small meals a day made them fat. The thing was these people were eating full 500-1000 cal meals every 2-3 hours. Not just the 3 meals 2 snack recommendations.

Well, I can believe that. I know when I started working out many moons ago, I was a skinny little shit. Everything I read in the mags said "eat big to get big". Many articles stated that it wasn't necessary to worry about food quality, just eat. They would say your body had to have super high calories to grow. Now when you're a teenage kid with no REAL guidance, I could easily see how you would think that you'd need to stuff yourself with shit all day to gain weight. I know because that's exactly what I did. I got up to over 20% bodyfat. It took years of learning the truth to correct what I'd done. In closing, magazines are full of SHIT!!!

it's funny how the Media blames bodybuilders for making kids fat when in reality the source of the communication the kids are reading comes from... wait for it... wait for it... the Media!!! Magazines are just another form of Media and show me one magazine that says eat all the food you can shove in your fat face and you will gain muscle, it's selective editing. Kids read the part about eating a lot and skip the part about eating sensibly and training hard.

I don't think so. There's a shitload of articles, supposedly from offseason bodybuilders, claiming that they're eating pizza, cheeseburgers, lots of weight gainers, fried chicken etc. When you're young and don't know any better, you just follow what you read. When a skinny kid wants to look like Ronnie, he wants to do what Ronnie does. Yes, it's the media that puts it out, but a lot of bodybuilders contribute to the idea that eating tons of shit is the only way to grow.

Most kids also don't know the difference between ecto, endo, and meso. They think because a bodybuilder with supreme genetics on the offseason shoved their face with high calories and packed on more muscle, that they can do that too. Magazines don't go into the fact that these pro bodybuilders are genetically elite.

Unfortunately, people write off using clean food to gain mass, and it's mostly on the boards. There used to be a time when it was a sin to gain anything over 15lbs in the offseason, now if you gain 15 it's not enough! It just goes to show a change in thinking. It's not that they knowledge base isn't there, it's just that no one applies it. It's easier (and more fun) to hog down in the offseason, rather than eat "clean" food year round. But there are some athletes that are cleaning thanks to offseason programs by Chad Nicholls and Justin from Troponin nutrition. Also, and everyone laughs at me and calls me a has been for saying it, but John Parrillo was a pioneer in this respect.

Has been..................:D

I like John Parillo and he has some good strength and stretching programs for all athletes. I also like his Parrillo pancakes in the offseason too.........

I guess what I tend to forget is that they are just kids but I still don't think it's right to blame the bodybuilder's I blame the media... they're the ones that are printing things without telling the whole story.

They blame bber's because its easier then blameing who's at fault. The parents of these KIDS. If one of my kids starting eating like that and putting on weight(not muscle) I would stop him/her. If I didnt know what to do about it I would educate myself then educate him/her. Its easier to just sit back and say its someone else's fault so thats what they do..

Like Haney used to say " If you cant flex it get rid of it ".
The thing is these magazines need to give the average guy hope. If it wasnt for hope the mags and most supplement companies would fall flat. So whatelse is there but to promote big eating and supplements. Genetics is the last thing they want to tell ya about. Dont fear though Muscletech has a supplement now that can alter your genetics into Ronnies.

LMAO!!! Sign me up for a bottle of that !

I laugh when I see guys get huge in the off-season (fat). They talk about how much mass they're gaining when they probably have 2-3 lbs. of muscle and 10-15 lbs. of fat. Why on earth would you want to gain ANY bodyfat at all? Bodybuilding in my view is about getting rid of your bodyfat. You can't flex fat.

What show was that? What % of the obesity epidemic amongst teenagers can bodybuilders or even magazines for that matter be responsible for? I teach in a high school and maybe 2-3 of the hundreds of teenagers in that high school even look at bodybuilding magazines or aspire to be "BIG". Rediculous! How about the NFL....lets place some blame there. I have more kids trying to pack on weight because they think they are going to the NFL than anything else.

Ultimately the people responsible for the Obesity of teenagers are the parents of those teenagers. No need to do any in depth studies, surveys or news stories! Ever watch the program "Honey were killing the kids!' they hit it dead on!

Lord help me, I remember the first time someone put me through fascia stretching... brought tears to my frigging eyes! I didn't really see a huge amount of difference in growth because of it, but man did I get flexible!

Has been LOL!

Yeah to say that bodybuilding mags are responsible for teenage obesity is ridiculous, very few teenagers read them

If you are 16-20 years old and in resonable shape to begin with force feeding yourself as much as possible plus lifting is still the best tried and true method
You do not get huge on skinless chicken breast and skim milk

Remember metabolism of a teenager is very different than yours

Now you may not recomend for a fat teenager to start eating cheesburgers however once that teenager starts lifting 5 days a week he is going to change his body composition and metabolism and those cheeseburgers will actually help plus if someone is reading the mags they are going to change there lifestyle. I have yet to read a bb mag recomending drinking and partying all night

While the mags may seem bad in retrospect when your a 30 year old lifter from the perspective of a teenager with no knowledge about training or nutrition they are very helpful

You think they are overtraining the non aas user but isn't overtraining the flipside of under eating? A teenager can train 6 days a week and make gains if they eat enough calories

The thing is to at least these kids are getting some physical activity. They are not just home sitting in front of the computer and video games stuffing thier faces with junk food. Like Zona said in the show Honey were killing the kids as the parents are supporting the poor eating habits.
Another show is were a chef, Jamie Oliver is trying to change the school lunches in England into healthy lunches and the rebelion the kids and lunch ladies give him. The shit they feed there. Look at Catholic schools. Most have no cafeteria so they feed kids fast food every day from Taco Bell, Burger King and Pizza Hut of course the parents have to pay for it. Imagine the fights in those households when telling the kid he cant buy his lunch.

Bodybuilders? What about mc Donalds? This is dumb because if "kids" actually read about bodybuilding in depth they would realize you don’t just eat huge amounts of food, you do it selectively. If you eat huge amounts of healthy food you will not get obese.

I just spent time this past week with the school superintendent re-writing school health policy with regard to nutrition. Taking certain food out of vending machines, limiting food related fund raising activity, concession stand nutritional requirements, teachers modeling healthy choice behaviors etc. is just a smal portion of the new policy. You will never guess who we are getting the most resistance from.... I'll give you a clue, its not the kids.

Razorcuts.... I dont know too many kids who have $75-80 to spend on Anator P70 (which is a good product....expensive but good) so once again who is enabling....who is paying?....Parents! And for the record....its Jay not Ronnie. You need BSN Syntha-6 to morph into Ronnie.
