How many of you guys compete with kids & wife? I had someone ask me why I don't compete anymore & my first response was, I have kids now. Bodybuilding is IMO the most selfish sport around. I love it but as I get older I realize how much I believe that. I give a lot of credit to guys that can juggle it or even more to their women. I have 2 boys 4 & 18 months & it would be very difficult to be father & husband & try to be the best at show time. I had to go to a wedding & a funeral in 05 when I did the USA & my first thought was, I am dieting. I know there are some Pros that have a family, but very few. When you are in that mode everything takes a backseat to show time. When the show was over in 05 the first person I wanted to hang with was my son.

i watched my friend mainevent do it this year 3x and it impressed the hell outta me. its all about balance and he made me realize that it is possible.

i used to agree with you mr.g but now i believe quit the opposite and my wife is actually encouraging me to give it one more go.

I saw Main go to extremes to make it all work. He always made sure to spentd time with his family, running up and down a hill with his little boy, coming into the gym to train, just making it all happen. I can't speak for him but I would think it takes discipline, love of a good family and balance.

Last time I compete was 1991, I now have two teenagers, which makes it easier than babies to compete. My wife and my daughter what like to see me compete. It is important to have family support, and there is always the back patio to sleep if I am too irritable LOL

BB is only selfish if you put that above your family, which I wouldn't compete if that is the case. Remember this is a hobby, and nothing more, keep that in perspective and you wll enjoy this sport.
