Hi Ladies,
I have a question that I hope you can help with, because I know many of you are competitors and understand the strain of what's required by the judges in Beauty, BB, Fitness an so forth. And also your body's reaction to dieting post competition.
I'm assisting a friend of mine with her diet and training for an upcoming pageant. She is a model and pageant contestant and unrelated to this, is my GF. Dating for about 6 months.
She recently confided in me that has struggled with bulimia in the past 2 years, ending the purging about a year ago. She's sought professional help and is doing well. Since I've known her, she has often eaten with me and seems to eat just fine nowadays. She loving the diet we're using, as it has a structured plan for eating, for the first time in her life.
Im just wondering what if any diet techniques you've found to be helpful after hard dieting or battling bulimia. Her "problem" is that she seems to put on muscle very easily, holds fat moderately/low (14.5% now), but holds water VERY easily. Just rock climbing 1x a week for 3 weeks caused her shoulders to grow, stretching her shirts, so she had to stop. (I'd swap Genetics for muscle growth with her, any day!)
We've increased her water intake and we'll watch sodium as the pageant nears of, course. Her thyroid levels are fine, potassium and magnesium are consistently low, so she supplements them. 5x a week cardio but her legs (she feels) are too muscular so I dunno how to get her cardio in without making her legs grow!
This is her life/sport/job, so I want her to stay healthy and compete and work as long as she wants to without the extreme measures of the past.
Any other tips important for year round low BF? She's 20, 5'8" 125 and top heavy. She needs to be about 119 for the show. We'll do that, but Im thinking past the show for her life and career.
Talking to her about fitness modeling, but that's another thread.
