i have heard in the past that it can... just wanted to get some thoughts from the folks here on this topic.

if you are doing cardio, are you robbing your body of the rest it needs to recover and grow? i like using the bike for cardio for example- is this keeping my legs from getting enough rest to recover from training?

I'm by far no expert on anything but for me cardio does not hinder my training. If anything I think it really helps my endurance when lifting. Just don't do to much cardio. No more then 30min at a time. But I'm a little diffrent in my day in day out actives. I work on a PC all day and don't move around to much so I feel I recover fully during sleep and sitting on my ass all day. How much cardio are you doing or thinking of doing. I only do 3xs a week.

i'm doing the same as you, 3x a week and 30 mins per session. i definitely know it helps my endurance and respiratory/cardiopulmonary health, so i'm going to keep doing it. at my age (32) it's a necessity!

i also sit around all day at my job...

As long as it isnt high intensity, not at all
Just as you are saying I would actually say the opposite

What would you consider high intensity? I run 6mph 30min = 3miles for me.

As long as you dont get you rheart rate really high (160BPM+) and you are getting in sufficient calories throughout the day to keep you at a caloric surplus, you should be gaining without problems.

That sums it up thank you;)

But, if you're weight training is intense enough to enduce a cardiovascular benefit, then why do cardio? If being in a caloric surplus is the goal and you are getting the cardiovascular benefits from your weight training, why would it be necessary to do cardio. It seems to me that all it accomplishes is burning more calories so you have to eat more calories. If you want to gain, why not just train intensely and eat? If you want to cut up, train intensely and drop calories.

In my opinion cardio is NOT necessary for anything if your weight training is as intense as it should be and your diet is in check.

I disagree

Cardio is very very helpfull for me even if its just 15-20 min after a workout. My endurance goes up I have more energy throughout the day and it only helps my strength.

i echo wojo's sentiments exactly. ive only done cardio in the past during contest prep. im at my biggest ever now; all this offseason ive done 30 mins. of cardio on an incline...im 5'9", 265-270 at approx. 12% b.f. it has allowed me to consume more calories while staying lean enough to get into grade condition (hopefully!) within 16 wks.
