firstly, disregard the title, i typed it wrong.

whats the average amount of time it takes fat calories to convert to bodyfat. I had a row with someone today that said they had pigged out over the weekend with about 4000 calories too many on both saturday and sunday and this had made them put on 2lbs on the scales. Now this could be a number of factors like water, clothing or just them reading the scales wrong because they are a bit of a dick as it is, but i was just wondering what the conversion time is either way. (just fat calories please, not excess carb calories)

anybody know a rough estimate, let me know.

how long do you reckon it would to convert those calories to bodyfat? would it be like a day or so?

There will probably be limiting factors like their BMR but surely it couldnt convert in 24 hours?

Grid,
I'm not an expert by any means but I would honestly think that if this person is following a clean diet during the week and then pigged out by an extra 4k, I would say that those two pounds were more than likely water weight brougth on by excess sodium intake and such.

And they should drop them in a day or two of eating clean again. I've read alot of research on how overeating briefly (assuming moderate eating during the rest of the week), does some cools things to the metabolism.

But back to the basic of your question, it takes anywhere from 6 to 18 hours for food to travel through the entire GI track and be metabolized. So 6 to 18 hours is what I think you're looking for .

Cheers Ghostdog you're a legend

sorry buddy thats a good thing :D

guys guys guys...now I am no Nurtition expert, but come on... 1. Some calories are burned as HEAT, Think CHO induced Thermogenesis. 2. Fat can be excreted in Stool. Think Oily- loose nasty shit. 3. Your metabolisim doesn't work like a switch.... Fat burning ON. Carb Buring OFF. It is more of a continuum, called an respiratory quotient (R.Q.). Now you can have RQ values that are predominantely Fat, PRO, CHO. YOu never JUST burn a certain Macronutrient.
Fat gain takes TIME. I Don't think it is physiologically possible to put on that amount of fat in that amount of time.
It just doesn't work that way. If it did you would see alot of fat people in the US.......oh wait a minute:D .

there are simply too many factors to give an accurate answer here, insulin and insulin resistance spring to mind imediately, absorbtion, quality of food and bioavailability, the state of the body, along with well about 5 million other equasions, I think you will have written a book finding the answer for this one, taking everything into account  .

If you have put 2 pounds on I would think most of it will be water weight and some bodyfat.
