I gave up booze and recently dipping (that was a mofo), and now that i'm engaged, chasing strange hooty hoo, but ain't giving up my 3-4 cigars a week.

Had to scale back my tastes as i sold a chunk of my collection of aged Habanos and Opus / Anejo, but still have a few hundred good sticks in the humi. I have some 6 and 8 yo Opus left, and they are phenomenal, but not many left, so have to go easy on them. Recently started liking Tatuaje, especially the black! others i'[m enjoying are Fuente Don Carlos, some aged Padrons, LFD Ligeros, and some Habanos although i'm not impressed w/ their lack of quality control re construction of cigars...

What say you?

Fuente curly heads are always a bargain and a good smoke. Have a box in my humi now. Also have some Padrons, Davidoff's grand cru(christmas gift) Ashton's, AVO 787 BUT, some of my best smokes I have found are NOT the most expensive ones. As I'm sure you have found out also. Some of the lesser priced i have also are:

Churchill's are my favorite size
La Gloria Cubana
La Flor Dominicana
C.A.O. criollo

And a box of Buteras, holding onto these for dear life! haha

A really good Habanos is hard to beat, but i get tired of plugged cigars that are expensive and have to jump through hoops to get here...

A really good priced cigar i enjoyed the other day is La Aroma de Cuba, not bad for the price.

Back when i was making a lot of $ i went on some cigar purchasing benders, bought tons of Opus, really hard to find Fuente stuff, VSG, DOn Carlos Edicion de Aniversario, and aged Habanos. They were good, some stunning, but i realized it's about the moment of relaxing w/ a good cigar, it's not so much the cigar.

Buteras?

Gators -- I've met people who've quit drinking, using coke, heroin, etc. But I can count on two fingers the number of people I've ever met in my life that quit chewing for good. Great respect to you!

As for cigars, I always have been and still am a big fan of Avo. Don't have much in the way of inventory myself. A small humidor with 20-30 cigars for special occasions and nice weekends. I've found, personally, I like the short cigars, like a short Churchill. I know the "shorties" are supposed to be what the new workers learn their chops on so they aren't top quality, but 30 minutes and about 3 inches down on a cigar does it for me. A nice drink in hand and good company rounds it out.

What the fiance say about the habit?

She is fine with it, she sits on the deck with me and we watch the sun set and the lake, but i have her upwind:D Seeing how this is my 2nd marriage, i was pretty firm on finding someone who accepted me for who i am, not what i could be. As long as i keep it in balance, she'll be more than fine w it. I told her that when the economy turns and we are meeting our financial goals, i want to re-load the collection, her response was "absolutely":)

Congrats on quitting dip. I quit December 1, 2008 and yeah it was a bitch. I was about a can to 1 1/2 a day for 10 yrs. good luck!

Now that Spring/Summer is back I can spend some time on the patio with a nice whisky and a Montecristo #2.

That makes me happy.

i've got 2 graduating from a college prep private school and heading to App State (out of state) so yeah, know the feeling, as my buddies down here say, "same dog is humping my leg":D

My "feel good" moment is on the deck w/ a glass of Splenda sweetened tea, good cigar, lab at my feet, and a good book, enjoying spring temps. and of course, when my fiance is over, her being there is most important, just in case you're reading, Honey.:D

I've been smoking a lot of Oliva V lately. Probably my favorite "go to" cigar. Also reallly been enjoying the newer Alec Bradley releases..SCR, Prensado, Family Blend, Tempus.

I like really full bodied cigars. My favorite of all time is El Rico Habano but I can't find too many shops that carry it. Also had my first My Father Le Bijou yesterday and really enjoyed it. Will def. smoke some more of those in the near future.

I'm partial to the Padron 64's right now. Great flavor all the way through.

Never can go wrong w/ anything Padron puts out, bar none best made cigars out there.

I smoke now Dunhill Aged Peravias.

only one cigar a week for me now.

AWESOME THREAD! Glad to see other cigar smokers on here... I think my tastes go through stages as the season changes... right now out of all my habanos ive taken a liking to siglo II's that i have had sitting since 06.. and i have a box of ramone allones specially selected that are fresh and smoking PHENOMENAL... As far as non-cubans go... I consider myself a bit of a pepin whore... Tatuaje, La aroma, Cubao's, and his blue label are among my fav's...
And of course i have a good mix of opus and anejo that ive been sitting on for a while.:) Again Excellant thread!

What say you?

Something I have little experience with but have friends who love their cigars.
What would be a good one for a newbie to try?

The little gum cigarrets in the white wrapper, if you blow out, you'll get a little puff of white smoke! :D j/k

You cant go wrong with a Fuente, or even a Ashton. Ashtons are mad exclusively for Holts cigar company. Its about $10 a stick. A little on the pricey side but a enjoyable smoke. Fuentes run anywhere between $4-$8 a stick. Again, a nice smoke. (depends also where you live which will effect the price) I'm thankful here in Philly we have a huge cigar wholesaler.

Holt's Cigar Company - Everything Cigars Since 1898! they have a huge store here. And a distributorship.

I was ordering quite a bit from Thompson Cigar and I preferred their Pipe Tobacco cigar as I love the aroma of pipe tobacco. I prefer the more mild cigars and found Macanudo Robusto to be a very enjoyable smoke, however, nearer the end the flavor became much more 'robust.'

I was going to try the Heaven brand flavored cigar but they screwed up my order and upon return, rather than sending the correct order as I requested, the refunded my money.

I always enjoyed smoking one or two as I knocked out my reports from my shift but as of late gave them up as I have had high blood pressure for the past 6 years, along with high cholesterol and low HDL....so I figured, better safe than sorry.
