Colitis

Anyone else on here have colitis? I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis about 7 yrs ago. Been in remission for about the past 4 years. Well, it started flaring up again a few weeks ago. Frustrating as hell. Doc wants me to go on prednisone (NOT) and come in for another colonoscopy. Just curious if anyone else had experiences with this. I think I read that Flex Wheeler has it.

I was diagnosed with indeterminte colitis over 1.5 years ago. Prednosone's some ugly shit man, but it'll clean you up. For what it's worth, anytime mine started to flair, a heavy dose of anti-biotics would usually kick it back down to tolerable. You might check with your doctor about taking Budesinide(sp?). It's a lighter cortico-steroid supposidly with fewer sides.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your diet look like (beans, fiber, lactose, alcohol, oats, etc..)

I was diagnosed with colitis almost 20 years ago. I was really surprised because I had never had anything wrong with me. I took prednisone for a while and then some other med that I can't remember. I started going to a chiropractor because my back was hurting a lot. I had been doing some pretty heavy squats, like 495+, and the chiropracter thought that the heavy bar across my traps caused some spinal problems. The x-rays shows some serious problems right where the nerves for the intestines passed out through the vertebrae. It took almost a year of intense treatment, but the symptoms slowly disappeared and I haven't had any problems since then. Maybe it is just a coincidence, but after looking at my back x-rays before and a few years later, I can see the difference. Anyway, it's worthwhile to get your back checked out.

Hey bro I have a relative with this and took that nasty Pred. but then took GH3 and has had no flare ups since and feels great on and signs of having have gone away. If you do some searching you will see other people with the same thing have as well taken GH# with great sucess. It can not hurt to research it and it can not hurt at all to try. My wife has used it and it help with Vericose viens in legs and her nails were brittle and no longer since she took that> pretty good stuff, you can take inject or pills

I was originally diagnosed with Colitis about 5 years ago. The doc put me on Asacol (800mg 3x's per day). It didn't seem to do the job, but I kept taking it. Well, about 2 years ago I went in for another Colonoscopy and it came up clean...no more Colitis or any signs. I've been doing really well, too.
I also used to take Acidophilus. I was told by 3 different doctors that Colitis may be caused by harsh anti-biotics which destroys all forms of bacteria. Your stomach needs bacteria to function properly and that's what Acidophilus does...puts good bacteria back in your stomach. I would buy good forms of Acidophilus and eat more yogart.

Good luck bro, I hope you get it under control.

Well, I scheduled another colonoscopy for July 27. In the meantime, I am going to take my Asacol as directed, and monitor the inflammation myself. If it gets better over the next couple of weeks, I am going to skip out on the prednisone. If it get worse, I guess I will take the prednisone (damn it). The doc wants my inflammation to be under control before the colonoscopy, which I understand.
