Do any competitors here suffer from these image perceptions...I want to compete within a year or so, but even tho I am 240lbs I feel like I'm 170lb...so I think I will look annorexic on stage....lol
When I'm working out @ my gym, I feel awesome and like chris lund should be there takin pictures....lol (skylights in my gym, thus very pleasing on the ey)

I don't suffer the non stop excercise, or eating part...but do look in the mirror and constantly compare myself to others...and I hate it!

Any competitors fight these inner demons?

Phats

Never

No, that's what they have judges for, they will confirm if all your inner demons and perceptions are true or not.

Well, let's "pretend" they deemed me into a top 3...that still doesn't address ones perception of thyself....if you persoanlly think you are big...great.. I think I'm small...so its hard for me to fathom dieting for a show and steppin on stage when I'm already "small" (in my mind)

Phats

1. Maybe you should discuss this with a professional

2. Think of how silly you sound, as far as I know you have never stepped on
stage...correct? So you have no barometer to go by as to how big or small
you really are. The world is filled with guys walking around gyms and
working the doors at clubs in extra tight Affliction shirts that are huge. It
is only after getting lean, cutting water, and standing practically naked
under bright lights that we all realize that we are not as big as we think.
So if you think you are small and you will get even smaller contest dieting
then you are probably right you will. If this whole thought scares you well
it's not written anywhere that you have to compete, dont do it.

3. Comparing yourself to other is a very unhealthy way to live. This can cause
people to make silly, life affecting decisions and maybe even drive one
insane ultimately. Imagine if you were taking a class and the instructor
on the first day told the class to come back with a spriral notebook. How
much though would you put into picking that notebook? Would you stress
and lose sleep if you didn't pick the best looking notebook? Would the
instructor care who had the best notebook? If yes was the answer to any
of these questions would that be really silly? Well that is pretty much the
importance of whether or not you are big or small, or for that matter most
things in life. The sooner that you accept these facts the happier you will
be with yourself. Everything you do in life from the house or car you buy
to how big your penis is should be put in this perspective. I have this car
because I like it not because I am trying to impress my neighbors.

Yes but

In reality, you are small............so you are not crazy here......I mean if you were on stage dieted down. I will be honest with you, no worries....:)

Being on stage is whole another ball game. You get judge for symetry, conditioning, size. If you think it is all size, 2 guys come to mind, Alex, Shelby. Both weigh about 165.

alfresco imposter....lol, i did compete once in 03 i beleive.... 186lb poopy pounds....lol

i would "hope" to be a fairly conditioned 196-205lb if possible, weight not so important...just what i feel would be a good "size" given my genetics card :)

i agree, my outlook needs to change with self image....

my goal is to destroy my previous package i took to a stage....baby steps

BOOOYAAA!

You got it, hit the nail right on the head with the above quote!

i completely understand what your saying. when i look in a mirror, mind you never dieted down for a show, i still see the 110lb highschool freshman i was. i dont want that feeling to ever go away. it keeps me hungry and striving for more. i think as long as its kept in check and you are realistic with yourself you can use your deamons as motivation.

Phats

That's the problem with being a bodybuilder, you will never be satisfied with how you look. You definitely should not try to compare yourself to others however, you will always be your own toughest critic. Just like above, its definitely not about weight(Alex or Shelby) its about symmetry, conditioning, and flow. But if you see it as a continuing problem, maybe talk to a pro about it and see if there's not an underlying cause.... I.M.H.O.

When I was competing I always felt small, even on stage next to the other competitors I knew were 20-30 lbs lighter than me (natural org I belonged too did everything by height). I never believed I was the biggest guy on stage until I watched the vid and saw the pics. To this day I still have the perception of being smaller than I actually am. Doesn't affect me in terms of socializing and so forth, it just makes me more dedicated to training and eating. Whenever I feel real small, I just look at this guy and I feel big again:
Google Image Result for https://www.synthetek.com/Images/hernon03.JPG

Just kidding Phil!!!!!!!!

Start looking at Abercrombie ads and you'll start feeling a lot bigger. Or hang out with some guys that don't work out.

I always feel small, but when I'm out with normal-sized people, I get comments like I'm a "big dude," etc.

If I was looking at Muscular Development all day, I'd feel pretty small. But put on a size L t-shirt and hang out with my non-BB friends, and BAM, I feel like a stud.

Here's something funny.....when i diet down people always tell me 'you look alot bigger, i see your working out again'....lol.

So although in my head i feel much smaller, people think i look bigger. Things that make ya go hmmmmm.

This is a really good point, something that is often overlooked
as we spend so much time looking at ourselves and not seeing
what other people see because our self image tends to get in
the way.

I have yet to see anybody running around on stage with a tape
measure.

Though I have never been really big, or ever dieted to get "cut",
when I have gotten leaner, more muscular (less muscle?)
people will comment like you said . . . "did you start working"
(I want to say I never stopped). Muscles that are not covered
by a layer of fat and are defined give the impression, the illusion
of size even thought your clothes fit looser and you know damn
well you are smaller.

Yet another reason to not get sloppy and stay in great shape
year round.

Hahaha....i get that all the time right now. "Oh, so you started working out again!" Uggggghhh.

If a guy isn't 8 feet tall, that doesn't make him short
If a guy doesn't own 20 mansions and 50 cars, that doesn't make him poor
If a guy doesn't have a PhD in nuclear physics, that doesn't make him stupid
If a girl doesn't own the most expensive LV purse, that doesn't mean she doesn't have style
If a girl doesn't have DDD breasts, that doesn't make her flat

If you aren't as big as Markus Ruhl, it doesn't mean you're small...

On stage, you will be compared with people who are around the same weight, unless you have 6 or more inches on all of them, you will look either the same size, or bigger. that's why they have weight classes...

and don't worry, in today's standards, 13 inch biceps are HAAYOOOGGG!!!
funny how just today my older sister was saying "remember edward norton in american history X? wow, he was buff!"

ask yourself this question... do you ever compare yourself with Bill Gates and say "shit, i'm fucking poor and i did nothing with my life... i have accomplished shit, basically... why can't i be like him?"
most probably you don't...

so stop comparing yourself to the biggest freaks of nature who are on more shit than you can ever imagine...

NOW GET ON THAT DAMN STAGE!!!!! you'll have fun, trust me. ;)
