I wonder why some of you guys think a pro boxer can't be an mma star? Given the right training and dedication Toney could do damage at any age, He's that gifited of a fighter.

Maybe at a much younger age..he is 42, and at that age learning really isnt reality. He has no chance..well i shouldnt say that..like anyone he has a punchers chance, but randy wont let that happen. I listened to his interview, and he def is dillusional to think he could be the ufc heavyweight champ

I boxed in my younger days and trained time to time at Main street gym in downtown LA where Toney would train. I have followed him even before he knocked out Micheal"second to"Nunn. In his prime he was close to the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world. For years now you can barely understand him and i don't think he could beat any top 15 heavyweights in the world. He can't punch like a Ray Mercer. Its going to be a sad and painfull night for James Toney.

But this guy has an ego bigger than a house. He doesnt respect MMA or the fighters. He just wants to show everyone how great he is. Thats all. He is untrainable.

I agree mate, his ego is out of control.

It got to the point where he looked like he was on a cheese cake diet, and didn't even bother training for fights.

He has DEVASTATING punching ability, don't get me wrong, but he is nowhere near well rounded enough to be competitive in MMA, in my opinion.

Looking forward to his fight none the less.

Very true. My question is why is he calling out the top guys. If he was serious he would get a few easier fights then go from there. Must be about money. Lets hope the Don King politics doesnt make it's way to the ufc.

Toney could box! He just got lazy when he got into the heavier weights, but the dude was no joke in his prime. Randy better take him to the ground as quickly as possible, cuz if he tries to box with Toney, he'll get knocked out.

He is calling out the top guys because he simply does not understand the sport as many people in boxing do not. He will realize that when he steps in the octogon with randy. If he comes in with a traditional boxers stance..he will be on his back very quickly. He just doesnt understand the sport or respect it.

Hang on man, this guy is rich, hes got money and hes bussiness minded. He could buy Randy Coutor and he could do a deal with Dana and maybe even become a partner or something..... Ok maybe thats fantasy... But reality is what David Haye said.

Haye believes Couture will take Toney down quickly and easily and pummel him on the ground...“Six months of training isn’t going to be enough,” Haye said. “As a UFC fan, I know two or three years wouldn’t be enough. How many times has Toney sprawled in his life? 500? How many leg kicks has he taken in his life? 300? How many Kimura attempts has he defended? 140? Even if he’s done double that amount, he wouldn’t have nearly the experience needed to win a UFC fight.”

Haye said Toney would be best off if he lands his punches early, because if he’s not finished after grappling with Couture on the ground, he’s going to be surprised by how beaten up and heavy his arms feel.

“I know from training in MMA myself that the wrestling aspect ruins your punching power,” Haye said. “After a minute of grappling, your arms, back and shoulders fill with blood and even if you then find space to throw punches, your power is suddenly crap.

“And I hit a lot harder and I’m so much faster than James, and I couldn’t land a punch on fighters when all they wanted to do was take me down to the ground. James is a much more static fighter than I am, and is going to get thrown on his back immediately by Randy. I admire Toney’s spirit and boxing skills. But he’s delusional here.”

Could Dana and Toney be trying to lure all the boxing fans into mma pay per view? Could this be Toney representing boxing or could it be him having revenge on boxing for not giving him title shot and treating him unfair? Either hes going to get his ass whooped and that would effectively put an end to boxing as the best noble art of self defence or hes going to clubber Randy but the whole idea is that hes going to bring more fans to the Ufc and hes gonna take more than a fair share slice of the cake...IMHO of course:)
