Deads on HS Shrug Machine

My gym is really well equipped (50,000 sqft Gold's) but none of the fancy squat racks allow you to do Rack Deads because they don't go low enough (for me at least I'm 5'6"). They mainly look like this: **broken link removed** no adjustable power racks. So the Shrug HS machine seems to be the only option in the gym for rack deads.

-Has anyone been in a gym like this (no place do rack deads) and thought of some way to do them?

-Does anyone 'feel' the rack dead movement with the Shrug HS machine
**broken link removed** ?

Any input would be great. Thanks guys!
Dave

Yes, go for it! I use the same for deads when I do not feel like loading up a bar from the floor. Also, you can do bent over rows with it as well; a Charles Glass one that I "borrowed."

The gym I go to has a rack exactly like in the first link. I don't do rack deads but rather deads from the ground. The second link doesn't work.

have you tried standing on plates or boards so that you can do rack deads off the squat rack? the other thing is to just put the weights on top of a stack of aerobic steps and pull off of there. just a thought. i think homon does the second variation of rack pulls.

My gym has a very similar rack. I use a wooden box to stand on and pull from the rack that way.

Thanks for all the replies fellas!

The problem with the HS machine is it's too wide of a hand grip for me to work what I need to work in the back.

I thought about stacking weights but we have this rubber type covering on our plates so I would be afraid of them slipping out from each other. In addition, they don't have flat surfaces.

I thought about trying the aerobic steps but I was worried they would break. I'll look around for a wooden box and pick up the aerobic steps and see if it is built sturdy enough.

Thanks again.

I have the same squat rack at my gym and it works great for me, but i am 6', and it sits just below my knees when I stand on a step.
As far as breaking the step, I usually use 545 and it hasnt broke yet.

The HS Shrug machine works great for leg emphasized deadlifts.
