DENIED EMPLOYMENT B/C OF A STEROID ARREST

Un...fucking...believable!!! Today I was turned down from a part time job at Lowes Home Improvement Store. They said it was because my background was "unfavorable" for employment.

I was busted in 2001 for possession of steroids, Plead guilty and received a probation before judgement...which IS NOT a conviction.

I tried to talk to the HR manager and he was a total prick about it, wouldn't tell me the specifics or even who did the background! I was even straight forward on the application and interviews about the incident. They hired me pending the background invest. Now they won't hire me?? WTF? It's not like a theft, robbery, burglary or violent crime. Everyone at Lowes has a clean record?? Give me a break!! I know there has to be at least someone w/in their 200K employee payroll that has at least had a DWI.

I can't believe that I can't get a part-time job at Lowes because of a steroid incident from 2 yrs ago!!

Another corporate company that has been influenced our anti-prohormones and anti-anabolic U.S. government!!

file for "certificate of grievance" or something similar....

it will seal your records if they're holding you back from "bettering yourself".... trick is, you have to prove you did something to better youself, eg, graduated college, tech school, ect...

oh shit have i had the toughest time getting a job...

i just got one finally, i start monday..not im my field and it pays 15/hr wich is like 1/2 of what i wouldnt normally get paid for my computer work but what the fuck i need any job...lol

i got denied by home depot, lowes, target and a bunch of other chain stores..

Thats bad news bro. Unfortunately even though you pled guilty b4 judgement, unless ajudication was withheld and it probably was not, then you actually have a felony conviction.

Thanks guys! I am getting a copy of the background check sent, that way I can actually see the depth/ scope of their investigation. I talked to my attorney and he said I can't get it expunged until June of this year. AND I was not convicted since a PBJ in the state of MD does not costitute a conviction. Lowes tried to tell me I was convicted. In their application, they state that "a criminal history will not automatically disqualify you for employment."Def. gonna consult Rick! I think Lowes needs to get sued over this one. Maybe they are discriminating against me b/c I'm white!haha! Wow....100- 5mg Winny tabs= no part-time minimum wage job!

You got caught up in a standard hiring pratice.....it wouldn't have mattered if it was for tresspassing....it showed up on there report so your application is denied... Don't over evaluate this, it may not be because of the particular nature of the offense but it was againts their hiring pratice........Get it expunged...problem solved.

thats prolly what screwed you. your app might not have even made it to the background check stage. imagine they had your app sitting there with 100 others, and yours admits law trouble and the other 99 do not. its a helluva thing but honesty gets you nowhere these days. i bet if you had not mentioned the law trouble youd be at work right now. many companies dont do as thorough background checks as they would have you believe..if at all. next time leave it out, let them figure it out. either way good luck, if lowes dont want you...try home depot

Doggtales, I, too have a felony on my record for possession for sale of steroids from oct 2002. i was told i would get my felony expunged or sealed i guess when i complete my community service which should be a year from now. you do actually have a conviction on your record. im on probation til oct 2005. i never put down that i have a felony i have gotten a job lying about it and will continue to do so. judas stone is right, if they see it first, they will trash it. try being the employer, would you want a criminal working for you?

my other jobs were under the table through friends so that was cool, but im out of a job right now, obviously im starting my real estate courses soon, because to get turned down from a piece of shit job like lowes means its time to do something real productive. dont apply for that shit job anyways, fuck em! sometimes you wonder, well how does the gov't expect you to be good and be a working man with the felony conviction, and for steroids? what a fuckin joke. i asked my probation officer just a few days ago and he tells me thats the irony. i dont get it.

I feel for you and have another warning -- watch out for insurance companies and steroid use. I made the mistake of talking to my doctor [ a personal friend as well as my doctor] and asked him about steroid use. He wasn't in favor of it but said he would monitor my blood/liver etc before, during and after -- just to make sure all was well. What I DIDN'T realize, until it was too late, was the the Dr. was taking notes and putting them into my personal, permanent file. The insurance company got a hold of the file, on another matter, and when they found out about my steroid use, tried to cancel my policy. It took the owner of my insurance agency talking to the manager of the department of the insurance policy, to get me listed again. I've had to have a special rider added to my policy that says that any liver damage as a result of steroid use is not covered by their policy. Bummer.

Even though my lawyer is a fuck head I feel much better about my case now after hearing what you guys got poped for. LOL Don't mean this in a bad way but it makes me feel better about my situation, and feel bad for you guys. Hope things turn around for all!

I feel for you...I do however, Take a look at Phil Hernon...he had serious problems and he has felt defeated many times but he has kept going....just kept pushing and moving forward.

If you let them get you or to you...you've been defeated. The key is to laugh at them until you're pissed....and then show them what you're made of!

It's just a job....for godsake just go somewhere else!
