So i'm tryin this new diet i heard of... its supposed to help me gain lean muscle.. it says since i weigh 190lbs and i'm 6'0'' i should eat 4,000 calories, 320g of protein, and 90g of Fat in a single day.

What do you think of this.. PLEASE TELL ME

What about carbs?? 4k cals is a ton of food. Well in protein and fat you only have 2090clas there! Where do the other nearly 2000cals come from??? So you will need an additional 500gms of ?????? Either carbs or protein????? There is something wrong with your numbers there!

Here are the values 1gm of protein or carb = 4 cals
1gm of fat = 9 cals
 
Try this simple weight gain formula:
multiply your goal weight X 21 (for hard gainers) or 20 (for moderate gainers) or 19 (for easy gainers)
for example 225lbs X 20cal/lb = 4500 cal / day
Which I would break down to:
50% Carbohydrates = 2250 cal or 562g - mostly from complex/low GI sources except for postworkout
30% Protein = 1350 cal or 337.5g - Whey postworkout, Casein at night and meats / eggs as much as possible.
20% Fats / Essential Fatty Acids = 900 cal or 100g - Fish, flax, & nuts are some of the best sources.

I usually cant get to 4000cals a day but i average around 3500.. And the only way i can get to that many cals is by drinking energy drinks and eating cliff bars.. so i would say 1000 of my calores come from energy drinks, natural energy bars, muffins and bagels..

So should i raise my grams of protein and fat to meet my calorie goals or lower my calories to meet my goals of protein and fat??
 
I forgot to mention that i also get around 620cal/150g just from celltech alone.

Postworkout this would not be too bad, but I'd do 80g Waxymaize & 10g BCAA's with 40g whey protein isolate 20 minutes later.
3 words for you - EAT MORE FOOD.
You want to get bigger? EAT MORE FOOD.
If you are fine with the size you are now - just keep doing what you have been doing. If you want to make your body grow to an unnatural size, then you have to eat unnatural amounts of food.

do not follow any "one size fits all" diet plan!!!


your body utilizes energy macronutrients in its own unique way. it prefers one to the other(either fats or carbs), and it burns either slow, med, or fast.

shift your macronutrient intake around based on what works best for you.

protein is the only exception. always strive for a minimum of 1.5-2 g per pound bodyweight daily. alwaYS!

as for carbs and fats....try out a day with limited fats(just the efa's) and high carbs...then try out some days with limited carbs(stick with green veggies ) and high fat intake (lots of nuts and fatty fish)... once you know which your body likes better, then play around with total calories of that macro each day...see what amount of calories lets you grow as quick as possible, and keep it as low as possible within that range.

If a calorie increase is required I would always look at ways to increase protein intake first. Then possibly fats. So try to get more protein in your diet first. Aim for around 300-400gms of protein daily. Many like you make the mistake of not eating enough protein daily.

I personally would not follow a diet like this. I would not eat calories just to eat them. You mention the cliff bars etc, just to get your cals in. that is not good.

You should do this to gain some mass. First of all. Up your intensity like fuck in the gym. No more eye contact with anyone. you are there to train like a mofo! Up the poundage! get crazy in there! up your carbs to about 2.5-3 grams per lbs of bodyweight. Keep your fat low. trace fats only in steak and whole egss. thats enough. 1-1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight in protein.

But this should not be set in stone! eat how you feel. eat what your body wants. of course you might have to shovel a little more in but dont over eat. Training hard, eating more carbs and I would still do some cardio to stay tight bro! Im serious. even bulking up.
These are my opinions only, discuss it with me if you wish! Then if you want to get shredded to the fuckin gills lets talk turky my friend! i can get you looking like a road map. peace out

Im a teacher by profession. i love helping people and your a great student of the sport. A good teacher is always a good student as there is always plenty to learn.

I have hired help in the past and it was the smartest thing i ever did. But my help wasnt always as generous in explaining things.

I had to figure things out and learned allot on my own and from some pros who i have been lucky enough to train with and learn from.

i want you to know why I would have you do a certain thing. I dont just give orders, i try to explain, make it logical and treat you how I want to be treated. I think you have learned allot from me bro..

I have known you from these boards for a long time now, it was great working with you this year bro.
