A little while ago I hit my first training plateau. I really pissed me off cause I really couldnt figure out what to do. Coming across some old powerlifter USA articles I decided to to try my first periodization template. It was a short little 6 weeks one. First off. Knowing that I was going to the gym to train lighter made me happy cause I dont want every work out to be do or die all the time.

So my end result was I just beat my last Bp PR by 10 lbs. Gonna try another 6 week cycle and see what happens:D
 
It works for some people but it never worked well for me. The Westside training method produced my best gains. You can only do the same thing so many times before it quits working.

Agree with PB.

We used to do 10-12 weeks to get ready for a meet. We'd start with lighter weights for 8 reps, then in a cuople weeks go to 5's, then triples for a few weeks, then doubles, then week or two of singles.

We'd progressivley drop the assistance stuff along the way, but keep close-grip benches and heavy shrugs in right up to just about the end. Squat yuor opener 10 days out or so, no heavy deads the last two weeks, and the last 5-7 days before a Saturday meet was completely off.

Mom uses Westside now and has set new State bench records the last to years in a row, and did WABDL World's last month. This seems way better than my old routine.
