Do you guys lock your elbows when doing any kind of raises?

I always thought that you should never lock your elbows and always keep them a little bent when doing either front, scaption, side, or bent over raises. But one of my physical therapists said you should keep your elbows locked when you do front raises so you completely isolate the front delt (I never asked them about scaption, side, and bent over raises). What do you guys think? I've read numerous articles on the net saying to never lock your elbows and to always keep them a little bent but the articles never go into detail why. Is there a medical reason why you shouldn't lock your elbows or is it that keeping them a little bent hits the muscle better?

Any and all views would be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, you don't lock out so you can keep continuous tension on the muscle.

You guys are misinterpreting his question I'm afraid
Jake: the straighter your arm the stricter the lateral raise, LOCKING your elbow however is not something I would do and I find it quite weird that you get advised to do so. Ask him or her why they let you lock up and let us know

I've always been told to never lock.

NEVER LOCK OUT

I never lock out my elbow's or knees, I was told that its extremley bad for tendons/joints and can cause tendonitos and CUTS CIRRCULATION OFF WITH LOSS OF BLOOD TO EXTREMITIES! Its like one of those things I was trained never to do like bouncing the bar off my chest while benching.

EXPECIALLY WITH KNEES. Ever have to stand at the position of attention for hours cause some idiot left a rifle magazine back in the barracks. Watch people fall out from locking there knees jsut standing there.

When i was younger and when i trained legs i remember i used to "lock" joints. Could it be the reason why i cant train legs anymore because of some very strange feeling
