Anyone have a bachelors degree in E.S.? I have one and will use it for Physical Therapy but what the hell can I use it for jobwise temporarily right now? Ideas very much appreciated bros

RJ

why not try to get work with a professional sports team....that would be an awesome job.

THat would be AWESOME bro!!! but i dont live close enough to any of them. I am gunna ask to work weekends only at the hospital since the hours are so iffy all the time and pick up a side job. I have this degree and dont know what to do with it. Im lookin for somethin thats not too much to take on since I am still in school and taking some VERY challenging classes.

Thanks for the reply..lemme know if you get any ideas ill be browsing online all day

it seems that your best option may be training. even if its for some place that pays $10 an hr. i know at my gym the trainers get to hang out and drink free protien shakes all damn day when theyre not training someone. i believe they put in maybe 10-15 hrs a week.

Yea i used to personal train at a small gym and it wasnt bad at all. My good friend works at a world gym as a trainer and Im asking what positions they have available but it looks like only a front desk position that would be graveyard shift! And the better gyms require me to go get a certification which is like 6 hundred at least for the ones they require which i dont really have lol

most employers look favorably upon any degree, even if its not related to the job you are applying for. unless you are applying for a very specific job, like electrical engineer, your degree will still be useful!

the restaurant business....as a waiter or bartender, its fast easy cash, if they dont let you eat theyre food all day for free its easy to have shakes or prepaired food available at just about all times. and really a single shift may be frim 11 am to 4:30 pm tops. if you lived closer id hire you so i can get rid of someone with a horrible attitude....nothing gets under my skin more than negativity.

I might look into that bro..thats a good Idea. I wish that would be cool to work with someone from here! Sounds like a good option because my Afternoon classes start at 5pm.

i do

and as i graduated 3months ago i find there are no jobs out there. sucks i have bills and shit. i make like 200 everyother week. wtf lol....um i was ttrying to get into medical sales or equipment sales. but i started working at a local gym, and im starting to do small team training to get student athletes in shape for their sport.

Yea this is where im at bro...as crappy as it may sound to some i hear walmart offers GREAT benefits and prolly discounts on food!!! I wonder if i could work in the pharmacy? Do you actually have to be a pharmacist for that? I really cant see myself as a checker makes me feel like im taking a step back from the hospital

Bro you can most likely get a job as a P.T assistant. All you probably have to do is pass a test.

Believe it or not they make good money too. You have a great degree. I have a B.S degree in Kinesiology but went to grad school and got credentials to teach.

what about substitute teacher? my wife gets $100 per day and always gets 3-4 days a week. or even become a gym teacher cake job 6hrs per day summers off. u'll never be rich, but u'll never be poor either plus u get a pension and benefits for life u cant get that anywhere nowadays. just a thought....

im glad this thread got made, im was looking into the exerise science myself, my research has lead to basicially not very good job wise now unless you have a doctartes in it, and dam how much can you really learn about exerise and nutrition wright? you can go to a gym with a masters in it and still do just as good as a persoanl trainer with an ace cert, cuase there usaully based on how many steady client syou have, so it almost sems the exericse option is simi wasteful or unescary, im kinda going more towards medical feild possible chemisrty but it isnt easy,

Well this degree is designed specifically if you want to become an a)Therapist b)Personal Trainer or Coach c)Technician at a hospital

I will be a therapist so gotta have a doctorate...so in the meantime gotta make some cash ya know...hospital isnt bad at all. Economy aint worth shit and the hours are just low right now. But I dont regret getting this degree at all..gotta keep my EYE ON THE PRIZE

keep your head up and think positive. thats all we can do

PTA would be the best option. Pays a lot better than the avg. personal trainer position out there.

I would contact all of the NFL teams and see if they need extra help during training camps, that way you might be able to travel for a month work full time and get added expierence and networking in. Every sports team might be using extra people during there training camps. just a thought.

Once I get my DPT I actually plan on applying for a job as a therapist for a professional sports team...that would be really cool

I graduated last December with a dual major in exercise science and human nutrition. Its funny, all through college we (the people in my classes) were all told how we will have so many job opportunities once we graduate. The last semester of school in one of my classes, someone asked the professor what kind of jobs we could be looking at with our degree. He replied that honestly there isnt that much without further schooling such as physical therapy, med school etc...and when talking to my advisor just before graduation the only jobs that we really had offered to us were for personal training. I was pretty bummed to find that out at the very end, although I accept responsibility for not looking deeper into it earlier. I just had this false sense of security since we were always told we would have no problem finding work.

The last year I was in school I learned about the position of a strength and conditioning coach, I have no idea how I didnt know about it earlier since basically all I ever researched was about lifting/nutrition throughout college on my own time, I always thought the sports coach directed their weight training and I knew I didnt want to be a specific sports coach, anywho. Just so happened there was a complete switch in the S&C staff at the university that year and no one was accepting any new student assistants for that position, so I was out of luck on being able to get any experience in that area. I think that is one job I would truly enjoy, but now I have a ton of bills and am married not living remotely close to any college where I could intern at or get my masters for something of that sort. I have no idea how I can go about getting into a S&C position now, wont be able to move for several years because of my wife's job, she just switched jobs this last year and would look best to stick around for awhile.

There are a couple gyms I could personal train at that I did check into, but the pay was a joke, and I just couldnt take the risk of accepting the job because there was a good chance I would not have even been able to make ends meet. Im at a loss as to what to do now for work in this area and very frustrated. I am back working on the family farm, which is one of the exact reasons I went to college so I wouldnt have to be back on the farm lol.

My advice is to really narrow down what job you want, and figure out exactly what you have to do to get there with schooling etc...With just an exercise science degree your only job option is personal training from what I have found.

I like the idea of you subbing RonJon. If you like kids, its actually pretty fun.
In california all you need is a background clearance, a degree( which you have) and passage of the CBEST( california basic education skills test).
Subs in my district make about $160 per day and long term subs make over $200.
