Fats

I thought you were gonna say you saw me (fat)

Doesn't intake of proper fats play a big role in increasing mucle as well?!?!

I believe you still don't want to either overdo fats but watch your "overall" food intake - fats just being an important element. There's plenty of good fats - olive oil, advocado oil, flax, peanuts, CLA, etc. I believe the 2 biggest contributors to bodyfat are sugars (when taken at the wrong time, as most do) and TOO MANY calories (of any food).

Now you need to increase your food intake in order to increase muscle. I do believe the amount of food is VERY individual (genetics). I'm living proof of that :( (too fat right now). I know people that eat twice what I do and are skinny as a rail! I can accept the fact I will gain some fat when gaining muscle but CAN'T accept the fact that I lose TOO MUCH muscle when trying to lose the fat - what a roller-coaster!

I have not read the article but I have read a great deal on how the food pyramid was created and why everything is low fat, low fat , low fat....

Ok here goes the story in a nutshell:

When the food pyramid was created the USA was in a crisis of cardiovascular illness (and still is). Obesity had not risen yet, but cardiovascular illness was increasing. There were a few studies done that suggested decreasing cholesterol and saturated fat in the diet led to less cardiovascular illness. To illustrate this to the public the pyramid was created because the dieticians had to consider that some Americans read poorly; so they used pictures.

To eliminate fat, they inadvertantly eliminated protein (because at that time most foods high in protein also contained fats). They also did not know the physiological function of fat other than to say it was an energy store.
