Hey guys I need a topic for a 25 minute presentation in class and it has to be something with lots of information out there about it.

As in I need 25 peer reviewed articles 20 just need to be the abstract form and then 5 full text articles...

Any ideas? ha ha My professer is also extremely open minded and cool and has judged a few NPC events.

yeah

Do it on the ridiculous "War on Drugs"

My idea....

"THE EFFECTS OF AAS ON WOMEN".... that would be a great one. Don't forget to mention the clitoral enlargement. Sigh...... I still remember that chick with a clit the size of a peanut M&M.

BC

It's gotta be something that there's a ton of info out there on... and for some odd reason I think that last study is not going to be found on ebscohost.....

I hate presentations.

I would use something that has a lot of theory. Some Ideas maybe:
string theory, black holes, multiverse, quantum mechanics, global government, ufology, or maybe the alternative energy/the energy crisis.

There is a lot of research on the protein requirements for athletes .The research has been repeated many times there are good journal articles by lemmon, dipasquale et al.john beradi mentions some of the research on his site and also has a renowned scholar review all the research to date.

Just do a search for protein requirements research you will find tons. This research goes back to the 60's when they recommended small amounts or protein over the years the recommeded amount has doubled. Still they recommend diets of p:c:f of 12%:58%:30.They account for greater protein needs by adding more calories.Australian institute of sport has some good nutrition articles based on the research as well.

guess what the recommended level for protein grams per lb.

For what class? and I'm guessing when you say peer reviewed and abstracts your talking medical journals? your question was too general.

Plenty of peer reviewed articles in biology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, cosmology. the physics and cosmology ones i have a good 60 on my harddrive if the OP needs some. I have them saved where the article is first then i re-explain it because alot of the defining information is simply math that can be tough to understand. I did that because someone was interrested in it and sent him the information in a way someone with no background in physics could understand.

theory, by definition means a hypothesis that has been tested over and over again with the same results. a 'theory' is a fancy way of saying 'fact'.

i think you meant hypothesis, thats a new idea thats needs testing; i.e. tested meaning proved.

Certain theorys will remain as a working theory for quite some time due the the fact that at our current level of technical capability they cannot be experimentally tested and verified.

Take superstring theory or "M" theory as its come to be known. there are a few inherent problems with testing this theory. the first being that we are only scratching the surface of our understanding of it, and of the people that study it only about 6 or 7 in the world truly have a firm grasp on it, and what it actually means. another problem is we would need to perform experiments at a scale smaller than the plankh length, as well as circumvent the heisenburg uncertainty principle. the reason that string theory, like theories about planetary evolution, seems so promising is because it accurately explains some observations that we can make, even though we can't actualy experiment with these things yet. Even some of the greatist proponents of string theroy relinquish the fact that we could be completely wrong about all of it.

well said bro, some theories like you said are just difficult to test - hence a working theory.

having majored in physics myself, you seem very knowledgeable. it is an area of study or interest for you as well?

about the overcoming the heisenberg uncertainty principle, i am a firm believer that some 'rules', like that one, cannot be broken, not with any level of technological advancement. some laws are immutable. we must work around them if possible. these laws were not created by mankind, merely observed to be the nature of reality. if there is some supernatural deity, he/she/it defined these laws, hence they cannot be broken by us. if there is nothing supernatural, then these laws are just the nature of the universe and still cannot be changed by us

the question remains - how accurate are our observations and interpretations of these fundamental laws? interesting pun on the original idea, for the heisenberg uncertainty principle states that no event can be observed without some type of interaction with that event - thereby altering the event. our own observations change what 'was' to occur

Cool, one way I have done it is go to somewhere like pubmed and poke around subjects that are of interest. Then do a report on one that has a lot of info, 25 is a lot of credible studies.

It appears to me as if the instructor is trying to teach them to do reasearch using credible information such as peer reviewed journals .

One thing people don't realize is that in the science world ,University(by a respected and accreditted) or published peer reviewed journals are what holds up under fire.

Look at all the crap articles and shotty science that make it onto this shit via cut and paste, lol.

i majored in physics in college and am trying to get into a grad school being out of school for almost 10 years thats kind of difficult at the moment.

second bold part.

What if the tiny strings vibrated in a predictible and knowable manner. especially the open ended strings witch are attached to the fabric of the universe? Then a measurement of each individual particle would not be necessary. And since you wouldnt be adding any energy to the system the act of taking a measurement wouldnt effect the outcome. by having the ability to calculate the correct "kind" of vibration, position and velocity can be extrapulated mathematically. Enter the higgs Boson, Which may be part of whats tying these string to the universe, and by doing so giving them mass. and what if the source of the strings is outside of this universe? that changes a fundamental part of the pirnciple eliminating the " closed system" portion. all of these so far un-testable by all, and barely truly understood by just a few.
