I know that fruit is healthy and generally have a low GI, but really how often do you eat fruit daily? Honestly, I opt for veggies (broccoli, green beans, asparagus) over fruits, especially right now. Mainly because I control my sugar intake daily. Maybe you can say I am fructose intolerant right now (kidding:D ) Actually, I can't tell you last time I had a fruit. I do take my orchad plus vitamins to replace the nutrients.

So, how many of eat fruit? If not why? Is so why?

About 300-400 grams of carb daily - almost all (85%+) from fruit. I eat a lot of raisins especially, but also bananas, grapefruit, strawberries, pineapple, and apples. No grain or dairy.

How do you live without milk?

any particular reason you go with the raisins bro? That one is one of the few i havent been eating...just like em?

What is the reason behind this? Not being critical, just would like to know:)

Raisins, bananas, melons are high GI and have a stronger impact on blood glucose when eaten alone.

While strawberries, blueberries, raspberries are low GI. Apples in part because of the skin have a low Glycemic Load.

Berries are wonderful anti-oxidants and will not negatively impact most diets so I eat lots of berries & apples.

Everyday

I don't remember the last time I went a whole day without eating fruit. I eat fruit with almost every meal. Apples, bananas, and Oranges mostly. Sometimes times I eat Grapes, Cherries, and Pineapples. I love Raisons and I could certainly eat them constantly but I try to hold back because of the sugar that is added in the processing of the Raisons.

About the same % for me as well. I also do not eat grain but every once in a awhile I will have plain yogurt, skim milk, or raw milk when I can get it.

Dad is there a paticular brand of Raison that you eat that doesn't have man made sugar added to it?

I eat half a piece of a medium size orange pre workout and post.
That's all the fruit I can eat.

I wish I could get most of my carbs from fruits. Alas, brown rice is almost free, and fruit is anything but.

fruits

I eat alot of blueberries and apples. Recently I found another apple that I really enjoy---its called a "JAZZ" apple. I probably have at least 6 apples a day everyday. More veggies in the evening with my meals. Once in a great while---might have oatmeal with blueberries in it---thats only when I eat out breakfast somewhere. Most places dont have fruit---and if they do---its mostly melon fruit(in which I dont like).

dad - why are you eating fruits instead of carbs like rice/potatoes/oats/etc? just curious thx

Is it possible for fruit to replenish muscle glycogen? (A stupid question is one that is never asked :p )

yea i love apples..i like to cut em up and put em in my tuna!

About %90 of my carbs come from fruit. I have one meal daily(lunch) b/c im at work and the boss pays so its usually a sub or something that isnt fruit. The rest of my carbs come from milk and fruit. Usually I go with bananas and oranges b/c they are the easiest to eat and the cheapest. I'll also do 16oz of V8fusion which is pure fruit and veggie juice, no added sugar or anything. I just wish more fruits were cheaper. Berries would be great but getting 50g carbs from blueberries daily is expensive.

BUMP this question?????

Of course they can!

If amino acids can replenish muscle (as well as liver) glycogen after being processed into glucose by your body, do you seriously think a pure carb like fructose can't?

Fructose might replenish liver first, but it doesn't mean it won't replenish your muscles too.

And by the way, fruits aren't fructose only. White grape for example is half fructose/half glucose.

Fruits are GREAT for your health... lots of micronutrients: vitamins, enzymes, minerals, phyto-substances, etc...

And personally I know that each time I switch to an all-fruit diet I look better in a matter of days. :)

i have noticed for me personally when i consume more fruits it craves the sweet tooth part of me that is inclined to eating junk food.

ah, but what about conventional wisdom that says to avoid eating fruit pre-contest

i find i fill out and have much better energy eating fruits over grains, but can't get away from the whole 'don't eat fruit during your prep' behaviour that has been so ingrained in me.

thoughts?

BFU

its my understanding that there is more water held under the skin when enough fruits are consumed, i've never competed or experimented on myself to that point. while there are many myths that have evolved over the years, i bet this on is true, but i don't know. it doesn't apply to Dad obviously

It's rather the contrary bro.

Since i dropped all oats, bread, pasta and wheat products from my diet i feel ten times better and dont have near the water retention. My carbs are solely from fruits and veggies... i keep the apple farmers in business
