I'm moving out to Cali in a few months, and will be living fairly close to Golds. Wondering if anyone here has actually trained there? I'd like to know what the atmosphere is like? Are there a ton if people just there to see the place, and are others just there to be seen, and not to train hard? I know it's a really nice and and huge gym..but is it worth it. I've been lucky, I started my training at Armbrust in Denver, and now I train at Steel Gym in Manhattan most the time. Both of which, are true bodybuilding Gyms. Just wondering if any has been to Golds and can tell me first hand...

It is an amazing bodybuilding gym, I've only been a handful of times. I live outside of downtown LA so its a bit of a drive. Just good luck finding parking bud!

You have to train there at least once as it's an awesome once in a lifetime experience. I've been there a couple times and trained with a friend of mine and his buddy who used to be a national level bber. Take time to look at the pictures on the walls as well.

It's a nice gym. Definitely has some characters. Not a huge gym though. Size wise it's actually relatively compact for the amount of people it services each day. I'd have trouble working out there. I'd be looking around too much lol

Like a kid in a candy store.

I for sure plan to at least check it out a few times. Can anyone from the area suggest another gym close by? I'll be living in marina del Rey, so some place not to far...

I asked this on another forum as well... And was told it was all gay dudes and porn stars..

I did a walk through mid day and was impressed with the layout. Bet it's jam packed at night though.

I train there currently. Best bodybuilding gym in L.A. Hands down. Its a moot point anyway as you have no other choice living in the Marina. Great choice on the Marina by the way. You are in Manhattan now it looks like so you are accustomed to a high cost of living, but very few bodybuilders can afford to live and train out here by the beach for long periods of time these days. Sounds like you have money so you will enjoy yourself immensely I believe.

Bodybuilders in L.A. train at three gyms now. Gold's Venice, Powerhouse Chatsworth and Metroflex Long Beach. Your only option is Gold's. Luckily for you its also the best option. I have no problems parking, or with people there just to see the place or to be seen and not train hard. Just as many of the top bodybuilders in the world have no problem. Pakulski for example drives all the way from LaFrancois' house way out in God knows where, a couple of hours away, to prep for the Olympia @ Gold's Venice and he lives in Florida. Still the only gym I have seen two Mr. Olympias in training at the same time, Dex and Jay. They don't do this because there are better places to train out here. They do it because there is still no better place to train in the world, if you can afford it.

LMK if you have more questions.

Rex.

Any more info regarding Google not renewing their lease since they have bought up lots of the property in that area?

Rex, thanks a lot for all the info man! If I have any other questions regarding bbing in the area, I'll hit ya up... If ya don't mind. Outside of training, if you have any advice on a nice building/ areas to look for a place, I'd appreciate it. Im coming out early next week to find a place. Thus far, all the really nice buildings I've seen have been in the marina, but were pretty open to anything. Were moving for my girls job... Her new office is in Beverley Hills, but we have no I interest in living there. Still don't want to be so far that her commute will suck.

Apparently they let Golds sign a new lease last summer. I guess they were the only business that wasn't moved... I could be wrong

Eat at the Fire House after workouts!
I miss that place

Yeah ive been there a few times....

Me and my exwife worked out there a couple times. I had a few conversations with Will "world" Harris. He was cool and down to earth. Oh and the "Rock" wwf wrestler was training there to. I had a lot of fun but i was head over heels involved in bodybuilding then so.......It was a good experience though.

I lived in what is now called Aqua Marina on Lincoln when I first moved here. About 2k for a 1 bedroom, about 2400-2500 for a two bedroom. I also worked in Beverly Hills and hate traffic more than anything. So that is definitely not a bad commute by L.A. standards. A lot of medical personnel live in this building or at least they used to. Travel contracts are not so common now but used to be a lot of travel nurses. Gunter was living there at the same time I was and Hide is living there now. There are no bad areas in the Marina. There are "bad" areas of Venice, Culver City, and Santa Monica. Some areas where I wouldn't live. Forty55 lofts is very nice and fairly new. It is away from the water on Redwood, which isn't necessarily bad. I think a little over 3k for a 1 bedroom, little over 4k for a two bedroom. Everyone on the west side uses West Side Rentals to look for rentals here . There is a fee but it is worth it. Culver City is a great area as well but most people own. The best buildings in Venice people also own but you may find something you like. I would not live in Santa Monica for a variety of reasons. There a lot of nice buildings on Jefferson in Playa del Rey. Mostly owned but if someone is renting it'll be on West Side Rentals. I would not live anywhere else in L.A. County personally. Those 4 areas only and they are all adjacent to each other. Just get West Side Rentals and pick out some places to see, you'll be good to go. LMK if you have questions.

The Firehouse ain't no more the place to go - it's SAUCE now just a few
steps further down on Hampton Ave. passed Rose Ave. The food they serve there is awesome.

go check it out - BB

Golds Venice

I trained there for ten years and its still the best gym for Bodybuilding. If you moving to LA the best place to live is the South Bay, Hermosa Beach, Manhatten Beach, Redondo Beach. South Torrance. I think Venice is a shit hole, and Santa Monica is really expensive.
