Who uses, and likes the hammer strenth equipment. I do use it, but wanted some opinions on if free weights, or cable machines are better. I only use the row machine, but in my gym there is a shoulder press and i put 270 on it like its nothing. I sure couldn't military 270 for reps though. Is it taking away from the lift. Are these machines purely for strength.

Only time I use that equipment is when I have an injury. They can be great for working around those. Otherwise, I dont see them as being very good for building mass. thats just my opinion.

As far as machines go... these are the best! I dont base my workouts around them but they are a good addition either at the end or as a pre exhaust. We have nothing but hammer strength at my gym and my personal favorites are the incline press, hack squat and standing HS curl.

I like the hammer strength squat machine. Its slightly angled so you are pushing into somewhat, your squating and then its like pushing into sledbag for football.

I don't use them very often. I get a much better feel with free weights. Maybe its just me, but I don't like the angles on some of their stuff. I get almost nothing out of the shoulder press or the chest equipment. The only one I use fairly often is the Tricep pushdown.

Every Golds here in Vegas is loaded with Hammer Strength too. Way to many people use just the Hammer stuff and don't use free weights at all!

incline

i love the hammer incline press. it is the main exercise of my chest routine.

As far as equipment goes, its not to bad. But somebody mentioned that maybe its good for just strength? Horrible for true strength gains cause its all leverage. Is better suited for targeting muscle tissue for gains and probably not till after bombing with barbells and dumbells.

DORIAN YATES SEEMED TO DO PRETTY WELL USING A VARIETY OF HAMMERSTRENGTH EQUIPEMENT.

I LIKE TO DO BASIC FREE WEIGHT MOVEMENTS..IT'S NICE TO HAVE SOME VARIETY THOUGH...SO I USE THEM WHEN I GET THE CHANCE..USUALLY A FREE WEIGHT MOVEMENT AND A PIECE OF HAMMER EQUIPEMENT.

great for variety, but I don't think they can add as much mass as free weights. Also great for working around an injury!

Nice when you are wanting to vary your workout.

Hammer is nice because some enable you to vary grip points a great deal. I took nine months off and my gym has removed all the Hammer Strength machines and replaces them with more rubber balls, jump ropes, and Barbie dolls.:(

I think the Hammer was a great change of pace. As far as weights you can't really compare the amount you can load the Hammer versus barbells, dumbells, because the physics are different when you start using fulcrums, leverage, etc that they imploy. Just stack the 45's and get to work.

Good call.

Pekkerwood.....I like your frame of mind. Load it up and get to work. Whether it be free weights or a machine. Well i'm out. Off to the gym for the second time today.

You don't need a spotter when going to failure on presses, so I use them for that purpose.

at the end of my chest workout i like the hammerstrength i feel like after im prettymuch burnt out for the day 3 or 4 sets on the incline chest machine finish the pump just right. and i almost always use the preacher curl to finish off arms.

Oh yeh like you've used this type of equipment before! Oh wait I seem to remember a gym called Powerhouse that we maybe had a couple good training sessions in. :)
