Been looking at starting a home gym. to build the machines is about 1/3 of the price than
buying them so ive started getting that ready. my question is on the actual weights.

i can buy 20mm or 30mm steel sheets and i can have weights laser cut. The saving is roughly
the same as with the machines. Would there by any difficulty or unforseen problems with
weights made this way?

all weights will be cut for Olympic bar and handles to make it easy

I also built one machine and busy with a second one but I am not sure if it cheaper if you take:
1) The steel
2) Welding Rods
3) Electricity
4) Labour on manufacturing some items like rollers and to fit bearings
5) The time it takes to be manufactured
6) The padding of the steel
7) Sand Blasting/Discs
8) Painting
9) Labour to build machine - Even if you do it yourself, it will take you a while and even longer if you have other responsibilities around the house
10) Accessories (Bolts/Nuts/Bearings/Bushes etc.)

I can assure you it is much more robust and versatile because you can build one machine to be used for several exercises if you are creative.
After adding the costs, you will find a small saving, which is not worth it if you measure the time and effort. If you enjoy building things, the pride will be priceless.
The cost depends on where you live, so maybe it is worth it...

thanks, the main question was about laser cutting weights from sheet metal.

i think where i am it will be cheaper. thanks for the help, ill post pics once done.

Not sure about any of that! lol.

All I can say is..it sure is nice to have your own stuff. Workouts can get pretty fun cause you can set up stations without thinking of other folks getting in the road. :)

well for you JT, you dont have a home gym... you have a commercial gym that happens to be at home! lol. ill post pics when its done. probably within the next month
