This whole "men used to be men, they toughed it out and never complained" mindset is bullshit. They did what they had to because of the circumstances at the time. Things have got better and easier now, are you a pussy because you shop for meat at the supermarket? No? Why not, real men used to hunt their meat down and kill it themselves. Are you weaker because people nowadays have access to meds to help with things like depression rather than toughing it out (or killing yourself) "like a man"? Get a fucking grip.
These types of responses and others like it are what ruins this topic and what misses the entire point...
No one is saying to go back to ancient times and hunt your own food or that doctors and technology are useless...
Simply saying we got softer as a society and that the new “instant gratification” generation wants everything easy and handed to them.. There’s tons of entitlement...
It’s ok to have feelings..
It’s ok to have empathy...
What’s not ok is wallowing in your pity party and expecting the world to bend to your liking....
PERFECT EXAMPLES;
When I was growing up, it was ok to get smacked or hit with a belt by your mother when you fucked up or disrespected her.. Now?! It’s child abuse? Wtf? ADHD doesn’t exist in MANY countries I’ve been to/where my family is from, why? Because a swift kick in the ass was waiting for you if you act up....
When I was growing up there were no “participation awards”...
When I came home and told my mom a teacher didn’t like me, she said “deal with it and figure it out!” Compare that to now, “Oh the teacher doesn’t like you? Oh well they need to get fired.” Etc.... It’s fucking ridiculous...
The same goes for the category of depression and stress, people use the term too loosely and create a pity party and it allows enabling.. Our generation has NO FUCKING IDEA what REAL stress is... Not a fucking clue...
It’s simply about the values the older generations can teach us... The discipline, the ability to conquer adversity, extreme ownership/responsibility etc... We don’t have that anymore... Everyone is entitled to THE MOST benefit with THE LEAST effort/work... There’s A LOT of enabling going on...
I’m simply saying that we can look back on the men and women before us and their hard times and those core values and lessons can help us with ours...
