As a result my struggle with epilepsy I have been unable to drive a car for the last 6 years. It has been a long hard road for me but especially for my wife and family, but i am happy to report that this last Monday i was cleared to drive and on Friday I leased a 2018 ford fusion. The monthly payment stretches my budget a little but I figure after 6 years, fuck it i'm treating myself. I feel like a seventeen year old with his first car!
Anyway, i just wanted to share the good news. Peace

Congrats man, must be a great feeling to get that freedom back. On a slightly related note i was watching barret jackson yesterday and they had george bush jr promoting a charity car and he said he hadnt driven in something like 30 years haha.

Anyways ya i like the fusion body style for an entry level sedan, reminds me of an aston martin in the front, same design teammfeom when ford owne them if i remember right...

That's awesome! We all take things like that for advantage.....but it's a big sense of freedom not to have to rely on someone else for something as simple as a ride.

Thanks brother, it's a huge weight off my shoulders knowing the wife doesn't have to drive me anymore. I like the body styling of the focus and it's a turbo so its' got nice pickup for a sedan. Also a good safety record and nice basic features, rides very smooth.

That's great news. I can only imagine the smile that was on your face when you sat in the drivers seat for the first time again.

And nice choice of car, those are great cars.

That's awesome. I am glad to hear you have your freedom back.

I had epilepsy as a child, but fortunately it went away by the time I was 10-11. I couldn't imagine being an adult and not being able to drive because of it. That must've been brutally difficult to cope with....and not just the inability to perform basic adult responsibilities, but all the emotional hardship you must've went through as a man, husband, and father.

Let's hope it stays away forever this time.

Magic words right there. Once you get some time back under your belt and start to get bored with your daily commute....then you can start some mods!

So many things you can do with a Forced Induction car... :D

I also suffer from Grand Mal seizures and didn't get my license until I was 41, one day I was at the specialist and he said "You haven't had a seizure in over 10 years, ever thought of getting a license? I'll do the paperwork for you..."

I was sort of shocked and hesitant but I have to say it change my life so much, since then I have had two seizures in 7 years due to stress and lack of sleep and both times I lost my license for 6 months BUT I am thankful I was not driving and also thankful I have been given a chance to drive.

Enjoy!

How does a doctor go about taking your license to drive away from you? I'm just curious. I am worried they may try to do that to me some day. I would like to know the procedure.

I know with my mom, we had to take a note from her doctor to a judge to get it suspended. If caught driving after that...then she's breaking the law.

My mom is literally crazy.....and she would have endangered someone else even though she thought she was fine to drive.

Long history....we've had her committed before. She's been diagnosed with so many things through the years....But she is a very mean person when she wants to be.

My dad has to keep his medicine locked up as she will get his stuff trying to get high. Case in point is that at one time they had him on klonopin. She took an outrageous amount when she found them.

Then lies and debts everything. All the police around here know her story. Really sad.

But I think the person just willingly surrenders their license....and if they don't, you have to go the legal route.

It was a brutal experience. The hardest part was the emotional aspect and it was a truly humbling experience. I couldn't have done it without the support of my wife and in laws always doing there best to support me and the family. The best part was when i pulled in to my driveway and both my boys saw me get out of the car on the drivers' side with huge smiles and said "it's daddy's new white car!
My oldest is six and I lost my license initially when he was a baby so neither of my boys knew that daddy can drive. Hardship brought out the best in my family and that illustrates clearly to me how truly lucky I am!

Pretty much you show at your appointment and the doctor can just deem you medically not fit to drive. I see it on the end of elderly people who really should not be behind the wheel anymore. I've had the conversation once or twice with elderly patients about preparing for that time or initiating the idea to their doctors. A doctor can commit you to the psych ward if necessary.

So somehow the doctor sends in some kind of paper work to the DMV and they suspend your license against your will?
