Last year i made a post about abs cramping all the time. Well i kept trying and trying and still cant do more than 2 sets without getting huge cramps, it gets so bad that part of the abs sticks out while cramps.
What can i do if anything to ease the ab cramp, or i wont be able to do abs again.

You may have a hernia

i know exactly what your talking with that cramp that makes your ab pop out. its crazy. it was happening for a few weeks after i competed and my body's water was out of wack. i could only do like ten crunches before it cramped like that. one time it did it while i was leg pressing.

Have you tried Taurine? Works wonders and cheap.

What train abs?

Not trying to be a smart ass, but it's
my belief (and shared by others as
well) that if you work your entire body
hard enough, your abdominal develop-
ment will take care of itself, will receive
the requisite stimulation for muscle
strength and growth. What remains
is as function of diet, which is really
the key factor in seeing your abs. Their
eventual shape and look is genetically
determined. Just get lean enough and
you will seem them. Guaranteed.

But you did not inquire about that.

Muscle cramping is another issue, one
I don't have an reliable answer for. Many
speculate it could be a hydration, a mineral
and or vitamin deficiency or perhaps some-
thing to do with electrolytes. Now I'm
hearing it's calcium related. And this is
all highly "individual". Do some research
here, use the search engine and I'm sure
you will find some things worth trying.

Last but not least, perhaps some sort of
hernia like Boom said. Only you'll know for
sure.

Then again, we hear from people who have
experienced to some degree what you are
describing, but we rarely hear what they did
to overcome the cramping.

So please get back to us when you find
the cause. We can all learn from you.
That is so true bro i hardly even train my abs and they appeared out of nowhere it came from training overall body parts like back and legs, etc. And good clean diet

I have this same issue! Was going to make a thread about it

if i do abs, i do them on an off day b/c if did them after i worked out, they would start to cramp up after the 2nd set. I do them after cardio (30-45 mins on elliptical or speedwalking... nothing too intense, HR is 130bpm... so maybe im dehydrated or low on electrolytes? i use plenty of sea salt and get enough potassium from meat/veges...)

I typically do 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps. I do the ab-wheel, and hanging leg raises, and lift ups (dont know the name.. its where i have my body flat on a bench, legs hanging off the bench, i keep my legs straight then bring them up so they are perpendicular to the floor then push up with my abs then slowly lower to parallel).

At the end of this, if i bend over to pick up my water bottle I usually feel it start to twitch really bad and I feel if i exert any effort with my abs then they will cramp up... It happens predominantly on my left side, .5'' below my belly button and 2'' to the side... feels kinda tense like its about to cramp up... doesnt visibly stick out though

This just started happening the past 6 months. No idea what it is... maybe they are being worked so hard during my training (DC training MWF) that this is over working them and making them cramp?

any input would be appreciated

I heard this, but if I want to even start to see a hint of mine...I have to do lots of them, and have to be really, really lean..like 107-108 pounds..and that was after I really started challenging them every other other day, and very close to show...oh, and only the top start to show....damn abs!!!!!

but, in this case I would see a doctor too...curious as to why its happening.

Drink plenty of H20. Does it cramp up when you run?

I agree with everything you just said

Thansk for the imput guys.
Alfresco, i agree with you, i mostly do them to strenghten my core.
Also i dont think its H2o related as i drink lots, i am going to drink gatorade before and see if that will help.

Magnesium

I posted this before somewhere but I had the same cramping doing abs. Tried extra water, Taurine, Potassium, etc. Finally I tried a simple and cheap Magnesium supplement and bingo, problem solved. Might just be me as everyone's different but just sayin.

I am on Lasix daily and have problems with abs cramping.

The only way I can do them is first before any other exercises and them it happens but a lot less. If I've done a hard workout ( I don't) and try to finish up with some light ab work its a recipe for a funny face.

I'll give this a try.I have the same problem,it's usually on the left side of my abs, feels like an alien is trying to pop out, once this happens i just leave the gym and deal with it until it goes away.

I have had huge cramping probs with my abs. I would fear doing bench because I couldnt get up afterward. I was drinking to much water OR not taking enough vitamins....I picked up some calcium, mag, pot, and started getting more electros ..it stopped completely!
