Check out the summary and thesis I've developed (this is a copy and paste from the assignment)... and where better to post it than on here? Any advice is appreciated, and feel free to edit it or add things in and repost it. Thanks!
"For this assignment, I've chosen to research a very controversial topic that I have strong opinions about. That topic is the use – and public opinion of – steroids in contemporary American culture. More specifically, this paper will cover certain facets of steroid use including, but not limited to, the use of steroids by the general public (average gym goers), professional athletes, bodybuilders, women, young people and teenagers, along with those that have medical disorders that can be effectively treated with steroids. Associated with steroid use by the fore mentioned populations are a host of other steroid-related things such as the media's coverage of steroids, public opinion of steroids, medical research on steroids, and hundreds of quantitative and qualitative reports on responsible and irresponsible steroid use. As such, I've developed a working thesis statement that supports the argument I'm making in this paper, based on the research I've done: “Beneath the hype about steroids are certain facts and anecdotal reports of their safe and effective use, much to the contrary of what's been propagated by the media.” It is my opinion that I can present a logical, easy to follow discussion that portrays both sides of this argument, those being the sides for and against the safe and effective use of steroids. In the end, however, my research will ultimately prove that steroid use under proper medical supervision can be utilized effectively for not only performance enhancement, but also better physical appearance, anti-aging, and where required for legitimate medical purposes. This paper will also document steroid use in taboo populations, such as young people/teenagers, professional athletes, and women. I hope you look forward to reading it, as I will undoubtedly enjoy writing it."
