Check out the summary and thesis I've developed (this is a copy and paste from the assignment)... and where better to post it than on here? Any advice is appreciated, and feel free to edit it or add things in and repost it. Thanks!

"For this assignment, I've chosen to research a very controversial topic that I have strong opinions about. That topic is the use – and public opinion of – steroids in contemporary American culture. More specifically, this paper will cover certain facets of steroid use including, but not limited to, the use of steroids by the general public (average gym goers), professional athletes, bodybuilders, women, young people and teenagers, along with those that have medical disorders that can be effectively treated with steroids. Associated with steroid use by the fore mentioned populations are a host of other steroid-related things such as the media's coverage of steroids, public opinion of steroids, medical research on steroids, and hundreds of quantitative and qualitative reports on responsible and irresponsible steroid use. As such, I've developed a working thesis statement that supports the argument I'm making in this paper, based on the research I've done: “Beneath the hype about steroids are certain facts and anecdotal reports of their safe and effective use, much to the contrary of what's been propagated by the media.” It is my opinion that I can present a logical, easy to follow discussion that portrays both sides of this argument, those being the sides for and against the safe and effective use of steroids. In the end, however, my research will ultimately prove that steroid use under proper medical supervision can be utilized effectively for not only performance enhancement, but also better physical appearance, anti-aging, and where required for legitimate medical purposes. This paper will also document steroid use in taboo populations, such as young people/teenagers, professional athletes, and women. I hope you look forward to reading it, as I will undoubtedly enjoy writing it."

mmm

Why not write a grant request for a full year long study to research the AAS effects on me OMG?

I think you may want to think about narrowing done your target population a wee more. Seem to be a large group of people.

mmm, I like this idea. Narrowing down could be good, too... it's got to be about 10 pages, though, so I didn't want to go too narrow. I will definitely include an emphasis on bodybuilding/aesthetics because I've got such a good knowledge base already, and plenty of people on here that might want to give me some personal accounts (anonymously, of course).

That sounds very timely. The scope of said topic is so deep I personally would still have trouble fitting all of that into 10 pages. But I use to over kill everything. Out of 10 pages you'll have 8 pages for said topic so you need to figure out how you will weight it. You know histroy science blah blah.
Bbing vs trt depending upon the trt protocol you maybe able to put on circa 10lbs per year. Whilst reduce fat. But if you double that doctors won't work with you? I think it was you?

I can't PM when I'm on the go, yet I trust your "bump" is ok?

The biggest problem I have with your research proposal is the use of the word "prove." You won't be proving anything, you'll be supporting an argument. In the academic world this would be of great importance. For your undergrad english class, however, it probably isn't important but you might impress the professor a little.

I also agree about narrowing it down to one or maybe two related facets of use. Ten pages isn't much and you'll barely be touching on each if you write about all of the facets listed.

Good luck. Share the finished product if you don't mind.

I think this is a great idea bro, and your proposal looks pretty sound! Id love to get a copy of your paper when your done. I love research literature, and have actually conducted my own investigation in the summer of 2008 in the field of exercise and sports science with the help of a $3000 grant.

Thanks trainwreck80 and sakguy. You're right, trainwreck... I'm not proving anything, per se, but supporting an argument. Right on the money.

I did exactly this back in the day... got an A+ .. so the subject matter is definitely good.
My teacher liked the fact that I interviewed anonymous steroid users (some local bodybuilders) and natural bodybuilders too, who each gave their opinion on why it was ok/not ok.

That might not fit into your paper's format but, good luck. I think you'll do well.

thanks, athlete. I should post a poll on this forum about it...
