Curious if anyone knows anything about the drug Buspirone? Ive never heard of it.

The back story is my wife has been having anxiety attacks for no reason out of the blue for the past year. Just this weekend she was putting clothes away and had one to the point she can't speak. Her heart is racing, she is short of breath, etc.

I’m prescribed Xanax for anxiety. Did your wife not want a benzodiazepine, or did your doctor not offer it as a solution? Xanax is king here and a fantastic drug if not abused.

I can’t help Busprione but I know it’s used to help treat anxiety.

Busperone (BuSpar) target serotonin and dopamine receptors. Ive had clients prescribed it as a standalone anti anxiety med but, not for panic attacks. Like @cage99 said, xanax is the intervention here for acute anxiety attacks. Not sure for you, but it seems more and more general practitioners are reluctant to prescribe it due to its potential for abuse. If you do get a prescription, i would recommend going with the .25mg dose. You can titrate up as needed.

Busperone is a once daily. It along with therapy can help with generalized anxiety disorder and could help limit the incidents of panic attacks. Ive seen it prescribed along with a low dose sertraline (Zoloft) and have a positive effect for some clients. My experience with clients is they report its well tolerated. That said, i would recommend getting in front of a therapist if your not already. Find out whats triggering this in the first place.

Best of luck to you and your wife.

⬆️ Smart guy.

My dad (ex Marine, Vietnam helicopter pilot, PTSD) was on Xanax for years.
His VA doc titrated him off Xanax and put him on Buspar 2-3 years ago.
Cool as a cucumber.

Made my wife’s pussy dry..and I could almost never cum on it..dick hard as fuck and would just pound away forever

Bingo. Sounds like you’re some sort of psych provider so I don’t want to repeat anything outside my lane, but this right here is the most important thing in my non-psych background opinion.

Honestly she didn't go into the doctor looking for anything. She went in for a regular yearly visit and finally told them about her episodes.

We can't figure out if anything is triggering them. She's had 4 episodes in a year. Twice she's had one just out and about going out to eat with the family. Another she was laying in bed watching TV before bed. This last one she was just hanging up clothes in the closet. It's seems they just happen for no reason.

She knows now when they are coming. She said a certain song will come on in her head and that's when her heart will start racing and the episode begins.

I wonder if Xanax would even be a good option if its random. It would be hard for her to know even when to take one.

Buspirone is one of these drugs where many doubt it even works at all. This includes docs/experts. People may not know this but there a bunch of drugs where the utility is unknow. With antidepressants every 10 years or so the opinions of psychs/chemists change. For example a while back it was "proven" through meta stidies they worked no better than placebo. Then it shifted and will likely shift again in the future. One head of a large research hospital just laughed and said thing are evolving all he time, in another 10 years we will know SO much more. "We might have to again change the course of the ship."

Regarding "therapy," I got a couple of free sessions through my GP and I asked the the therapist if she would recommend therapy for me on my dime. She couldn't answer lol! "If you feel it helps it might be worthwhile."
I've also recently seen people saying therapy might actually be harmful, citing studies. You know, constantly thinking about your problems might not do any good and might hurt lol.

Lorazepam is another drug used to treat anxiety and I know many who it has helped.

Doesn’t have the potential for abuse like Xanax.

That’s the exact combo (Zoloft/Xanax) I’ve been taking for many years now. It’s been life changing for me in living life normally again.

Usually it's thought that longer acting benzos are less addicting. In Sweden, in hospitals where I'm now, oxazepam seems to be the choice medication. It used to be diazepam, but since you can actually feel diazepam it's thought of as a bad idea, even for short periods. You can hardly feel oxa. Xanax is thought of as the worst due to the fast onset and short duration but ime it actually takes a bit linger than diazepam to start working and the duration feels just as long if not longer. I would guess they are all as habit forming physically. You know the disaster oxycontin became, the drug maker claimed it wasn't addicting because it was so long acting but in reality it was a monster of a drug. Personally diazepam would be my choice forcfeeelikg "good," nice muscle relaxing qualitied too. Clonazepam seemed subjectively to be the strongest, people could immediately tell I had taken something, amnesia etc. Benzos can be both life saving and life destroying. When you really NEED it it's a godsend. Just like morphine and related substances.

Buspar can be dosed up to 20mg TID. We don’t use it much, it is like icing.

Therapy, low dose SSRI, clonidine is extremely helpful if BP can tolerate it. Hydroxyzine, beta blockers (if BP can tolerate it)

Now a days gettig a benzo is pretty hard.

I’ve been on it almost a year now. 20 mg three times a day. Works wonders for my anxiety.

It can definitely be difficult figuring out triggers. I recommend clients do a journal and keep track of their episodes if its possible. Not everyone can as this can be a trigger itself for some, especially new onset panic disorder.

Once the episode has passed, the client should take some notes about their environment and state that day prior to and leading to it happening. The situations you describe the episodes happening in seem pretty benign at face value. That said, it might not be something immediately prior to the onset that's causing it. This is where talking through things can help with getting to the root cause.

It's interesting there is a common stimulus in the song she hears before the racing heart rate sets in. It could be nothing but I wonder if there is any significance there.

Also, when was the last time she had a physical with her doctor? Anyone in this situation I recommend getting a full physical. There is a chance the underlying cause could be physical, not psychological.

Regardless, I wish you both the best in finding relief. It's difficult to see the ones we love struggle.

I would consider consulting with a more competent clinican doing a complete workup. Dyspnea - shortness of breath triggering-anxiety type- of symptoms can be from a multitude of things. Some very serious. I personally wouldn't write it off as strictly anxiety attacks.

But that's just me.
