Instinctive training

Anyone here use an instinctive training approach?

By this I mean just go in the gym and decide there and then what exercises and set/ rep schemes to use for the scheduled bodypart(s).

I have used a log book for a few years now, but I have found myself being a little obsessive over planning my workouts to the extent that it is the last thing I thinnk about before falling asleep at night!

I know a few guys who do it but dont think i could ever do that..i still dont really grasp the listen to your body thing as well as i need to

i do...... i know what bodyparts im training but i dont know what exercises im doing before hand. I like it a lot better. I dont get locked into doing something.

ex. my back is sore and im supposed to do back squats..... i can opt for the leg press.

Yes that's how I train. I know if I'm going to work my arms or legs, but that's it. Once I get to the gym I decide what the exercises will be, how many reps, how much weight, etc.

My training is pretty much instinctive although often I will choose a 'theme' for the week like 21's, rep-pause, giant sets, ten tens, or some combination of stuff. Occasionally I will be more structured for a few months and map things out but not often.

mine is to the point of if my energy is a bit low, i may not go as heavy as normal, back off on poundages

Yeah, right now i'd say i'm pretty "instinctive".
I've done DC and I've done other planned workouts. I just feel now I know how and what my body responds to. So I can "freestyle" it a bit.
