Does anyone have any experience with taking iodine to boost his natural thyroid levels? Daily intake is said to be around 100-150 mg

Selenium, zinc and omegas 3 are supposed to help too.

Any other natural supplements known?

Coconut oil, which was already discussed here before, seems to be very efficient at improving your metabolism...

i often use a natural formula that i feel that works .

I used an iodine supplement for a while. It's called Iodoral. It seems to work for some but I didn't really notice anything. :(

Wouldnt it be a good idea to also supplement with kelp and maybe L-tyrosine even while your taking synthetic T3? B/c there is no proof that it can actually shut down natty t3 production, so maybe taking the supps with it can only help prevent any harm?

I take Armour Thyroid and it has not impacted my TSH at all. I recently added in some iodine, I am waiting to see if that makes any difference.

JC

I always use iodized salt to promote thryroid function.

i think massive g posted something on this awhile back

I take about 450mg/day through Sea Kelp, and the results have been...unnoticable at best.

Yes , JC Vince Gironda was know to use large ammounts of kelp tabs in his diets for iodine content to improve thyroid fuctuction.....On intensemuscle Massive G wrote a great write up on using kelp in a safer more efficiant manner .....do a search ....worth the read imo......but don't think you will get drug like effects.....but over the long run more of a natural regulation it would seem......btw where my new pm you promised.....lol......much love my fancy frenchman

My wife has recently been given t4 by the endocrine and was told to avoid salt with iodine. She has to avoid anything with iodine.

Hmmmmmm you may be on to something. I wonder if iodine will not make synthetic t3 or t4 work.

interesting, did he say why?...curious, because if she has "Hypo"typically you are deficient in iodine, and that salt has small amounts from my readings....for me is ok...I've been on T-4 for years.

Kelp is the best supplement to help regulate thyroid function.

Damn this is an old thread guys... :p

Ok since almost 2 1/2 years have passed, here is my experience with iodine and other natural remedies.

After a few years of non-stop T3 use (nearly 4) with dosages ranging from 37.5mcg to 125mcg, 50mcg most of the time to keep me lean while on high kcals, I woke up one day telling me that it had to stop, for my health's sake...

Well, not so much... lol. I had to stop cause I had a trip planned to the US, and due to your over zealous customs I couldn't afford to take anything in my luggages...:p

Anyways... fact is I actually stopped for good at the end of July 2007. The several months which followed, I gained fat like rarely in my life despite being on the same diet, and I felt sluggish ALL THE TIME. And I mean it. Bloodwork after bloodwork till december 2007, my T3 and T4 levels stayed desperately low, no matter what... kelp, L-Tyrosine, guggulsterones, you name it...

On January 2008 I was put on T4 replacement therapy, starting at 100mcg a day... it took 6 months to my doc and I to finally figure that I needed 175mcg T4 daily to remain in normal ranges.

Now I'm fine... but all those who say that you can't mess your thyroid with T3, I'm the living proof of the contrary. Of course, my case is a perfect exemple of SEVERE ABUSE and what you should never do (staying on for such a long time).

Now, the fact that kelp didn't help to improve an almost dead thyroid, doesn't mean that it won't help people with a normally functionning one to work even better. But once you're already fucked, only meds will help.

Good thing is I can now travel without fearing customs... I have a script. ;)

Telling it like it is... :)

PS Jason, your pm is on its way my friend!! :p

I was told the same.

Keep kelp for when you're NOT on thyroid meds. And even then, don't use too large dosages.

Curious - does the 175mcg t4 just keep you in the "normal range" or does it help keep you leaner than normal, like the t3 you used once did?
