Is it better to have high ketone amounts on ketogenic diet?

been doing a keto diet the last month and a half and just bought some ketostix last night. For anyone familiar with these they have a scale showing the amount of ketones in ur urin, I have been coming up with the light pink color 15mg/dL. Just wandering if having more ketones in urin means ur burning more fat or could having lower levels mean ur just using ketones more efficiently?
 
anyone? I see keto diets talked about a lot on here someone must know.
 
Well Ketones are made when the body breaks down fat for energy, so yes it's good sign when on a keto diet to have high ketone in the blood/urine.

when using them you should be in the high range first thing in the morning from night time fast as your body is using stored fat. then during the day your levels on the ketostix should lighten up cause of fat from your diet, not to worry as long as the ketostix show some ketones, your fine and in ketosis.
 
keto sticks can help determine ketosis but if u r truly fat adapted u should not see many ketones in the urine bc ur body should be burning them up for energy
 
Ok so ketones are being used for energy right not the by-products after the energy is used like CO2 with the krebs cycle. If so that would mean a lower ketone amount in the urine would mean you are using most of the fat getting converted for energy right? Just wandering if im possibly using too much fat in my diet or too little.

Yes, you can use too little fat. If protein is too high gluceogenesis occurs.
 
ketosis isn't why you lose the fat in a keto diet, it's a bi product of your low carb dieting.

im a low carb/carb cycle kind of guy.. I stopped worrying about ketones when Dr Atkins slipped on the steps.

all im saying is that the ketones in ur urine are not the best measure of ketosis, u can have high amounts which would indicate ketosis or lower amounts which means ur body is using the ketones for energy more efficienty but having a lower amount does not mean ur in ketosis either as u could be having too many carbs which would lead to very little ketones in the urine

i agree, ketones/ketosis is overated, and im much more of a low carb/carb cycling diet as it fits in better with weekly workouts

the only time i plan on doing a ketogenic diet or the anabolic diet would be when i am takin a serious break from my training and using a routine that doesn't rely too much on glycogen
