Is whey really necessary?

I have problems digesting the whey.
Lactosefree products give's me also problems
Is whey really that important?
What would you suggest post workout?

If appetite is not a problem I see nothing wrong with using only whole foods, post workout included. Of course a whey-less PWO meal is not OPTIMAL, but that's not to say that it won't work well. There aer quite a few out there that don't use whey post workout.
 
I use whey shakes between whole food meals, seems to bring the hunger back faster, you would have to eat alot more to make up for the loss but it could be done.I used to have big problems with shakes too, but I found ON's whey with amino's and doesant give me problems.
 
I don't feel protein supplements are needed they are just really quick and convenient. I know I couldn't eat enough to gain without it. But I know some people don't use them at all like if I remember correctly jbomb told me he doesn't use protein drinks at all.
 
whey protein is only truly needed pwo, and for some others, to buffer there diets. If whey is hard to digest, try egg protein or even soy. Just make sure you take it directly pwo, like within 5-10 minutes, cuz these will break down slower in your body then whey will, so you need to take it sooner to still make your "window".......
