i have always trained slow.. i rest a long time between sets.. i have tried to cut back on time and it just kills my weights.. but, i took the cake tonight.. i went to the garage at 10.30 after putting the girls to bed.. me and the pitts went into the weight room to hit it hard.. (yeah.. right  ).. i did a total of 9 sets.. in a hour and 15 minutes.. now.. i did do some warmups ect.. but FREAKING HOUR AND 15 MINUTES FOR 9 SETS..!!! oh well.. it will get slower before it gets faster..;) i am old damnit..

I do 90 minutes over 12 sets and I'm probably only half your age old man so I dont see much problems yet :D

FREAKING HOUR AND 15 MINUTES FOR 9 SETS..!!!

Talk about a boring workout!

I'm used to train so intensely that if take more than 45 sec between sets I almost feel guilty

Sure you can't lift crazy weights that way but at least it limits the risk of getting injured :)

Only times I'm resting more is after a set of 15-20 heavy reps on the leg press... my heart needs a little break then :p

With me, it depends on what I'm trying to accomplish.

If it's carb depletion only, then it's 30 seconds between sets, but the weight are only about 50% of what I'd do for a 10-12 rep max.
If it's Speed Day in powerlifts, then it's 45-50 seconds between sets for speed work, then 1-2 minutes for assistance exercises.
If it's heavy stes of fives, triples, or less, then it might be 5 minutes or even more between sts - whatever it takes to get a second (or third) set with the same weight.

And LATS, I AM an old man, LOL!

Way to pace yourself brother! :D

I don't wanna hang out in this thread for fear that I may grow old by association!

Hey Lats! Look on the bright side. At least you woke up this morning! :p

You're pacing yourself in your older age :D

I have trained using short breaks in between sets(30-60 secs) and long ones(90-150 secs) they both have advantages and disadvantages. As of now im taking longer breaks and the weights are always big and thats always nice :p

If I rest less than a minute I'm basically doing dropsets

I'm in the same boat as you and lats...I'll be 55 in sept...I did 12 sets today and took me 1 hr and 10 min's

i rest 3 min between sets on real heavy days and other days 2 mins

That's ok, Larry Scott did everything slow too and he won Mr. Olympia twice!

SLOW....AS IN MENTALLY RETARDED?

HELL, I ALREADY KNEW THAT, LATS! :) :)
