I've been told to lose muscle....

O.k I've been critiqued by by a head judge/ national level. I agree we everything I was told. Because I understand his points, but one of the critques threw me off at first.

I need to lose muscle in my obilques, now understand my waist gets down to 28 inches, so it's not my waist. (there was no one on stage with a smaller waist.) But my obilques are pronouced so it does effect my V-taper. No I will not post pics, that doesn't matter.

What I want to know is does anybody have any suggestions on how to lose muscle in my oboliques? I do no direct work for them, really never have, expect pre-contest.
My first thought was to wear my weight belt more often when workingout. Also thought about doing direct work on them using really high reps, thinking maybe that would streamline them instead of making larger.

Any experienced help would be appreciated.

Faceless pics at the minimum would help with a more honest critique, especially a comparison picture on stage. The judge could be flat out wrong it's another human. Their is a lot of confusion to this day on exactly how athletes are being judged on a very specific across the board level.

Sounds like a pretty much impossible task to me, never seen it happen. Best bet is to gain more muscle everywhere else. If the obliques have sort of a A-shape, first going in below the ribs and then out again at the pelvis, actually gaining more muscle there might give the waist more of a straight look, a more aesthetic look, when viewed from the front.

JMHO.:)

My obliques are very similiar to yours dave. Maybe slightly larger, but very close. They hang over my waist line about 1/2 inch. Phil Heath obliques are a good example of what mine look like. (not saying I like Phil H, don't take it that way please)

But the question is, are there any suggestions on how to "trim the obilques for a sweeping V-taper." Or lose some muscle in my obilques.

No offense to anyone, I'm not looking for a critque.

Yes, it's not bad to me, and everyone gives me a crazy look when I mention it. But I do understand how it would help my V-taper.

What part of the country are you from? If you do a BIG NPC show, like the Atlantic States, Southern States, etc... maybe the judges there would give you a better perspective. I know if you do those NY shows, the Pittsburgh, Border States, etc they wouldn't give you such impossible advice.

The advise you got is almost like saying "You need to decrease the mass of the outside of your pecs and increase the mass on the inside of your pecs. "

sorry bud

GENETICS.
like said before best strategy is to get beiiger elsewhere or master your posing and see if you can hide em better?
i remember talkin fto flex wheeler and told him how amazed an djealous i was of his symmetry. he said "my symmetry is not that great, i am just a GREAT poser. its all an illusion."
touche to that.
i don't think there is anything you can do to make em smaller. -JS

Yeah Dave funny you mentioned the Southern States. ;) I guess you would be suprised then.

And yeah JS I agree with the Flex Wheeler advice.

Is it posible to shoot Helios into a muscle? Would it have the same effect as it does on fat?

Ive had judges tell me BS before, so get other opinions before you go looking to change things. One judge told me one thing, I asked another judge on the same panel got different advice and disagreed with the other guys advice when I told him what he told me, I didnt tell him who told me though.

My Advice

E, don't get caught up in the "judges said" game. For one you are way too intelligent and a rational thinking young man for that. The best guys in this sport are the ones that do it for all the right reasons, they do it for themselves. Keep building the physique that you like that is yours, not what someone else thinks. To display your physique on your terms and having people admire it is much more satisfying. Pretend you are Van Gogh or some other great artist or sculpter. Were those guys order takers, creating what someone else wanted or were they visionaries and creating true art? Create your own vision E, not someone elses.

shit bro my obliques are HUGE!! solution? get your lats as wide as fucking possible ;)

Atrophy is usualy a bad solution, try solving things with hypertrophy always.
Trying to atrophy one bodypart usualy ends up bad... Why? think about it, how do you atrophy your obliques? not squating and deadlifting... that would fuck up your phisique... so the solution is find something to hpertrophy to solve your problem, if they told you a 28 inch waist is big it´s only because it "looks" big in relation to the rest of your phisique, so get bigger everywhere else and your waist will look small, stop squating and deading and you will lose muscle making your waist look even bigger

Eroc

many on here that know way more than I do have already given you good advise....so the only thing I can repeat is that I know from others that different judges do tell you different things at times...unfortunate, but it happens......sometimes you place well with the same physique in one show, and not as well in another...

a friend of mine was told to loose muscle...that she was too hard in one show, to come in a bit softer......well, at Nationals, all the girls came in hard and bigger and she did not do well, eventhough she was having her best year in all other shows...but one (head judge) told her this.

Be careful....you will hear alot of opinions many times at many shows:)

I have do my best to hide my obliques as well, they just carry too much muscle which just sucks, but like B-Boy said, I guess I just have to keep blowing up my back to make them appear smaller or at least do your best to hide them in your posing.

lenny is a very good example... he has thick obliques and they used to look even bigger... over the past 3 years he's been getting bigger and leaner every year and his waist just seems to get smaller and smaller due to how big his back and shoulders were getting.

I agree, I'm was confused mainly because I also had the widest lats, except for the guy that won. And they tie in lower than most people. But I know the wider I get the more it will help.

I like Aeliop's advice, guess I'll just let things happen the way they're gonna happen. it is what it is.

If you truly had the widest lats and the smaller waist and some judge told you that then just ignore him... I would show pics to some experts to make shure you realy have that small waist and wide back, sometimes is not easy to judge ourselves

Yes, understand. I've been told that by some experts. I'm very critical of myself. I was second guessing even posting that because I do know how some people don't always really see what's in the mirror.

Wearing a belt might help.

Dont train them even pre contest. i wouldnt touch i personaly dont and never will not even light.

doing machines more would take them out.

but like everyone else said get your lats bigger.
