Ok, this is a ways off for me, but iv seen the subject around so i wanted to hear some opinions and reasoning on the topic.

When somebody first gets their national qualification, i see them being told its pretty much a MUST to do junior nationals before nationals. Why is that? Lots of guys have been successful without doing junior nationals, i dont see why its necessary other than to get ur name out there, but theyl c u anyway if u do nationals.

hmmmm

maybe so they dont get their asses handed to them!! the many guys you say that go straight to nationals is really a VERY SELECT FEW like 1/2 of 1 % i would imagine...Hell the past few years guys have been coming back to the Jr's to get a title some havent been so succsefull( william Owens).. anyway the Jr's there is Nothing Jr about it.. It rank higher in quality BB than the USA's this year go figure!

IMHO you need to progress towards each better show.

First a local event
Then a state event
Then a regional event
Then Jr's
Then Nationals
Then a Pro Event
Then Olympia! :D

Anyone can jump to a larger event and win by default. I saw a guy that was at least 12% bodyfat, place in the Superheavies at the Emerald Cup, which qualied him for a national event - Do you think he would be smart to jump the Jr's to Nationals.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you were 12%, but we all like to take the shortest route possible. Why just WIN them all on your way up - you remove all doubt, by everyone!

Do the JrUSA's then the JrNationals. See how that goes first. Good luck.

i think it is very important to get ure name out there, with so many guys doing these shows its easy to get over passed, i think in 99% of ppl should do a Jr National level show 1st...unless u are extreamely gifted an have been in the game for some time....just my 2cents ...also why go threw all the dieting an money that one puts in a show, if ure not in it to win!...dont just do a show just to say u did it..i think a lot of ppl do that an dont even make it to the nite show...this is the best of the best..heres a pic of my buddy last yr at nationals an he could be a fav. to win this yr

Regardless of the level of the show, at this point it seems you would be best off researching who the legit. judges are and entering some shows that they are participating in. Good judging can you help you improve if you talk to them. With that being said, a Jr. level show can aid confidence and allow you to see who your real competition will be in the future. It also depends on where the show is as the LA Championships and Cal are usually more competitive than say smaller states.

Just my 2 cents,
SB

ya besides what everyone else said

I agree because 1. more exposure and you pay your dues (politics)
2. i beleive anyone below the top 5 or so arent good enough for the nationals or usa's yet. the junior nats. pretty much shells out the very few from the rest that should consider moving on to the nats. or usa's

|--[\\\]>--------- Also, Jr. is early in the year. Most shows (state) are closer to the Jr. than Nat'l. Plus, getting your name out there, being held in Chi-town, everyone that is anyone is there...photographers, promoters, pro's, supplement companies....if you do well at Jr. your name will be recog. helping you more at Nat's and/or USA's.
