Low sodium intake is recommended to keep blood pressure down due to lower water retention for those with BP issues. It occured to me, does it make sense that if you are on a carb restricted diet to drop BF, that this would also be beneficial for blood pressure since your body retains less water? Maybe not? Does anyone have any real world comparison data or experience on that?

easier to have higher sodium intake when you are low carbin tho, just the nature of the foods you are eating obv.

while low carbing it is possible according to studies to lower BP by using larger quantities of omega 3 fats, from a natiral source like UDO's or Flax oil. Omega 3's lower aldosterone, which is a hormone responsible for increasing blood pressure, you can lower your BP up to 30% using this method and all the other benefits are huge. Other dietary additions, CoQ10, Hawthorne berry extract magnesium and taurine. Eat more garlic and celery, and nuts and seeds. Avoid the obvious. Keep vitamin B complex high and maybe add folic acid.

I assume low sodium and high water intake, would also help lower BP somewhat, and aid to free up water retention, I would assume the lowering of the BP is however from the increase in water intake rather that the lowered sodium direcdtly. Doing both together would certainly be beneficial.

hope this helps

Worked for me...

Before I started on BP meds the low carb acted as a natural dieuretic for me and I had a subsequent drop in BP. Carb-up and BP was back.

That's been my experience too. I was curious if this was only me or a coincidence that this happened.

I think that's one of the selling points of the Atkin's diet.

Anyway, me too. About 20 pts.

Yes!

BP has come down from 160/100 to around 130/85 within about a week of going low carb its stayed that way for the last two weeks, increasing low intensity c.v may have helped somewhat but diet has made the big difference.
