Keto
Pro
Apart from initial energy drop after few days till being super shredded I always had great energy. There were literally few days when energy was lower
No mood swings
Increased cognition and libido
Very tasty diet- almost like every meal is cheat meal
Super fast changes in physique
No drop in strength at least for me
Great look in skin and facial features

Cons
Initial energy drop
Feeling small and flat
… i cant find more

High carb
Cons
Often drop in energy- i have carbs i have energy no carbs no energy
When very lean much less energy compare to keto
Sometimes mood is not great

Pros: muscles all time full compare to keto
I can eat a lot of fruits which I love
Skin tight wrap showing how good I progress
All the refeeds- home made waffles haribo sorbets etc

Scramble eggs with cheedar and chorizo with baby tomatoes
Burgers with cracked black pepper and mushroom sauce
Chicken wings with bbq zero sauce
Smoked salmon with lime
Dessert? Cheesecake with erythrol or double cream with dark chocolate 90%
 
For gains, high carb days.

For health, keto. My bloodwork on keto was the best it's ever been. You can look great and even incredible on it and feel great but you wont have explosive strength (I did not). You are better off using high carbs if you are trying to put on size.

I really like keto. My problem is staying full on it. I can't seem to ever get satiated and feel hungry a lot. I was diagnosed with a fatty liver back in 2018. Not bad but slightly. My liver enzymes were slightly elevated. I went on keto. 2 of 3 liver enzymes went back in range. And my LDL was the best its ever been. Now my triglycerides were like 398. But my doctor said he wasn't concerned with that. It funny how I started eating tons of fat and cut out carbs mostly, these people who say they only eat 12 grams of carbs a day I don't even see how that's possible, and yet my liver got less fatty and my bad cholesterol was the best its ever been. I try to eat mostly keto now but I still need carbs sometimes to feel full. I am a miserable person if I feel hungry. HANGRY. Lol.

For me eating more lean protein fixes this.

I love keto and stay on it for mental health reasons, bonus is energy, workouts are strong, stay lean without trying, great skin, no stomach issues etc etc my body and mind just feel like they work.

I take sodium pre workout for pumps ✌️

For breakfast I will have half a carton of liquid egg whites with 2 whole eggs, sliced roma tomatoes mixed in and scrambled, 4 pieces of bacon and either 1 avocado or 2. That won't last anytime. All those eggs make a big plate of eggs. I eat all that and I'm still hungry. I'm 6'1 and around 250-260. Not big but not little. Well maybe little for this site. 😁 My body just burns shit so fast. I've been throwing in a cup of oatmeal. It fills me up better.
 
Also some people if they really want to get pelled - not lean - but super lean they need to go extra low with carbs (me)
 
Also one of THE most important pro for keto : LIBIDO 😀
 
I eat pretty low carb - feel better, keeps my bp down with minimal meds, blood work A LOT better. I don't adhere to keto. I keep around 10-15% or under from carbs most days. Will splurge occasionally maybe 1-2x a week at maintenance or modest effort and be fine (beer/pizza/whatever). Point being doesn't need to be extreme to get benefits. Lots of middle ground.

For weight gain easiest thing to do is add carbs but I'm not trying to do that these days. Mostly I just move from more/less food and higher/lower fat content proteins for manipulating cals and lower carb.

Do you keep it as carb free as you can or do you go by "net" carbs and use things like Royo Bread and bagels and low net carb tortillas?

Depend if i was doing prep for a show i ate only veggies but now i am doing one apple a day and some strawberries or piece of pineapple. I am sure that i am below 50 gram a day but being honest 220 very lean plus cardio and gym I am sure i can eat around 80-100 total carbs and still get all benefits. I dont do any starches at all so no bread bagels etc. Just very small amount of fruits plus some veggies- trying to keep very close to paleo as possible for providing as much nutrients as possible. I just recently start to feel that every kg i have on my frame extra is causing me more discomfort and when I came back from NY in 95kg i felt amazing. Regained 4kg in a blink of an eye and it not so great 😉
 
I find it easier to stay lean going zero fat. I don't seem to add any body fat when I binge on sugars, carbs, etc. But I definitely do if I overeat on fats, even healthy fats. For that reason it's just easier to go high carb / low fat, since I don't have the self control to never overeat.
 
I’ve never seen a man 250 plus pounds on stage who does keto
A 250lb man that has a shit ton of muscle probably at some point in his diet dropped his carbs down pretty low, how much depends on the individual but some big guys are probably producing a good amount of ketones on 100g of carbs, some maybe even 200g of carbs thus they are on a "ketogenic diet".
I myself had sufficient blood ketones on 100g of carbs when I was very lean and doing an hour of cardio daily.
 
I've been bodybuilding for 33 yrs now. Over time I found the nutrition protocols that works for me. If I'm trying to add some size I do it with added calories in a 40/30/30 diet. If I'm trying to maintain I still have carbs just less. What I do there is I eat my carbs when I'm the most physical, between 6a-1p after that as my day is winding down I drop all the carbs and I don't eat anything after my 530p dinner until 5am the next morning. In the summer when I'm trying to be the most lean and shredded I follow a keto/carnivore type diet

I am the same. I was getting lean having rice and honey (a lot) a few times daily plus loads of fruit. Fats slow everything down and whilst a balance is usually the best way I will always look best on a high carb diet opposed to higher fats.

I do a lot of bad in many ways but I do care about my health so for the majority of the year I don't go very low fat and I add them (eggs, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, walnuts, dark chocolate etc) in for mainly health reasons. However on a zero/low fat and high carb diet I usually just get fuller and tighter if everything else is in place.
