I train DC style, and want to streamline my lift logging process. Right now I have a steno pad, with a paper clamp at the bottom to keep the pages from flipping out of control. For chest/shoulder day for example, I list my exercises down the left side, then make a column next to it. That column has all lifts done that day. The next time I come back to it, I just make a new column next to it, so I know what my goals are at a glance. I only have enough room to log three days per page, then I have to start a new page.

Just wondering if anyone has any helpful tricks at making the log a little easier?

I made a large excel spreadsheet and put it in a folder to take to the gym. Each rotation "A (chest, shoulder, tri, bw, bt) and B (bi, forearm, calves, quads, hams)" were seperated by a tabs. So A would have its own tab and I had enough pages to track each workout for the full blast period. The spreadsheet had the first column listing and the subsequent row (immediately below that lift) would have the weight lifted, then the next row would have reps, then the next row would have stretch length of time.

Then I would have 5-6 columns that could be filled in with the weight, reps, stretch time and at the top of each column the date that I trained. It made following along really easy and kept everything together. I also had a note section to record anything of significance during the workout, how i felt, a change I made, etc.

So recapping my spreadsheet was like so:

Movement 1 Date Date Date Date
Weight # # # #
Rep # # # #
Stretch

Movement 2
Weight
Rep
Stretch

Etc.

Movement 1 Date Date Date Date

Rep # # # #

Movement 2

Rep
Stretch

Etc.

Thanks for the idea. That would create more room instead of going to the right with data like I was doing.

So you used a folder, like with pockets and rings? I have found that the logbook will take a lot of abuse(going in and out of my bag, tossed around, etc) Did the folder seem to take the abuse?

I was thinking that someone should invent an electronic logbook. One that a person could easily setup to list workouts for each day, and data could be easily entered. I'm picturing an ipod looking thing. Do these exist already?

I am really simple with mine and have been for years

I get something like this

the small version --its maybe 4x6 (as big as a postcard)

**broken link removed**

and all i do is open it up all the way to the page im writing on today and put my pen in the logbook as a bookmark on the page that was "last time" that i need to beat.

Everytime i do an exercise, i just look back to that "pen page" back and forth but my book is always held open all the way on "todays page"

I write things real short Ive been doing this so long so a bicep and back day could look like this (and im going to put outrageous weights that I never in a million years could do to impress everyone reading this thread LOLOL)

alt stand dumbell curl 120 x 22 rp
reverse one arm cab curl 120 x 14 straight
hammer preacher widow 100 x 23
stretch
front rack chin 250 x 24 rp
high pull widow 300 x 19
floor deadlifts 135 x8, 225x8, 315x6, 405x4, 495x3, 585x3, 760 x 11, 805 x 7

thats it (last time is just about 9 pages earlier held by my pen so i never have to write down LT and TT 'last time and this time')

besides those weights used I want to note to everyone that I am extremely good looking, can shatter wine glasses with my singing voice, once won 3 million dollars as a jeopardy contestant, and am in the Guiness Book of World Records under "sexual stamina"

Well, lookie here!

It doesn't get any better than that, info from the man himself. Thanks for the reply Dante, and many many thanks for sharing IMO the best training philosophy out there.

I'm taking the test tonight for Jeopardy, and lookout Guiness Book of Records.

hey Tough,

I believe Guiness now tests for performance enhancing drugs. ( no Viagra allowed) lol

I used a 3 ring binder, definitely took the abuse. When I got home I entered in the info into the spreadsheet on the computer.
