I started a new job about 6 weeks ago. Its night shift 7pm to 7am. I do 3 12 hour shifts a week ( unless I pick up overtime in which i get paid double time). When I get home in the morning i get to bed at like 8 or 8:30 I dont wake until like friggin 5:30 or 6pm. This is making it hard as hell to get to the gym. I know it is all about commitment to the gym but man never felt like this before. Like right now its 4am and I feel like working out but aint no place in my town open at 4am. Any ideas on this anyone??? If anyone has any advice let me know. Thanks.

I worked similar hours for 9 months. Night shift is the worst. I also slept from the time I got home until it was time to go work again.

It takes a few months for the body and mind to adjust's and I cant truely say I ever adjusted to it. I would structure my workouts on My off days due to the fact that I felt "wasted" most work days. I also did workouts upon waking up......30-40 minutes even if Just working out at home helps.

If you worked a manual labor job like I did then it's a tough road, but you can work something out.

Good luck.

if you work 3 12 hr shifts then just do a 4 day split

i used to work the exact same shift. i did a 4 day split as nutsoe said. i had to get out of that though because i had no enegry during the week, and no life because i was sleeping for almost 4 straight days.

Yeah sounds good but....

I wanted to start trying the DC workouts. Also My schedule is 3 12 hour shifts per week but I may work all 3 in a row or 4 in a row and then have like 4 or 5 days off of work. I may sound like im whining but im just asking around if any bodys done this before and if they have some good tips. Also what kind of 4 way split. Thanks.

|--[\\\]>----------- I know you are tired after you work,, but i'm sure not as tired as you would be right after you wake up, so i suggest brining your gym stuff with you and going to the gym right after work at 7am and get it done b4 you go to sleep. do you live in a big city? i live in one and my gym i work at, is 24/7 most big cities have those

I've been working third shift for years. It takes some time to adjust to it but I know some people that never got used to it. Best thing to do is what BBA suggested and train before going to sleep.
I wouldn't try DC's program until you get your body adjusts to the new hours.

Best thing for you to do, is invest in a homegym, especially with all that overtime you can work. Just a power rack and a bench and some olympic weights, and your good to go.

This way, you can work out 4am.

I worked those shifts years ago when I was in the Army. As soon as I got off, I would eat a light breakfast and then hit the gym. Then eat another light meal then sleep for as long as I could. Also I took Tryptophan halfway thru the workout so I could sleep better once I got back home. It worked for me. Good Luck

Been having the same problems myself same type of shift but 6days straight or a minium of 5 like yours. Havent been around as much as I would like to be because all I want to do is sleep as well. good luck if you find a answer let me know please because I havent found it yet myself. MM

i was doing this 5 months ago. i was also on a cycle. i have never felt more tired. well here is the answer! your body times itself with the moon/sun so you arent getting enough sun this way to lower melatonin, increase serotonin.

i was doing this in the winter too, its worse around that time. all i did was work and train. i was tired all day, i could sleep forever. i didnt get results because of the schedule. it screws everything up. after i got fired, thank god lol. i focused on finishing up my labor-style community service from 7am to 3pm and during those hours, i got good sun and felt great even while working. ater i finished, i could still train and actually found myself pretty bored. also i would only sleep 5-6 hours sometimes but still felt energized. never again will i work the night shift.
