I know for most people, Memorial Day is often thought of as the long weekend where everyone hits the lake/gulf/sea and drinks and BBQs. As that may be true, let’s not forget the actual meaning of Memorial Day. We wouldn’t be where we are if not for the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that this country can continue to be free. From the earliest of conflicts/wars to the present, there is and forever will be a group of men and women willing to sacrifice their lives in order to keep you safe and free. Let us not forget.

So to any serviceman/woman, past and present who has lost friends in conflict and war, do not get down and depressed on this day. Instead, raise a glass, and know they died doing what they loved. They are in a much better place forever watching over you. Till Valhalla brothers and sisters!!

Sometimes even our country's leaders lose a son to war. General Kelly lost his son Robert. This article talks about how he feels that much of America doesn't know how much service members and their families sacrifice.

One thing I didn't know about was how the sentinels guarding the tomb of the unknown soldier never left their post on the day the terrorists crashed the plane into the Pentagon. I was surprised but very proud to hear that. Heard that story today when the president gave his speech at Arlington cemetery.

A few moments out of the day to reflect on what the holiday is really about seems like a small request for what others have sacrificed for what we have.
