I was never a speed demon when it came to triathlons and marathons etc.my back ground is an upper weight D1 wrestler who did well. But for the first dozen years of competing in these various events I typically finished in the top 20% of my age group. And I've been in the most competitive age groups for a while now. (humorously known as the mid-life crisis age group). Well yesterday I just competed in a fairly UN-competitive sprint triathlon and finished 51st out of 56. I'm now carrying an extra 25-30 pounds of muscle with less body fat. So I would have done well in the aesthetics division. But geeeeeeeeez.

I'm contemplating changing my username to Triathlonposer. A good squat doesn't always translate to a good 5k run time.

I did them years ago. At around 150 running was tough, at my current weight I can't even dream of it. A 1/2 mile, ok any longer no way. Swimming and biking would be tougher, flexablity wise swimming and weight on the bike, but likely not near as bad as the run...
 
I feel your pain bro. In years past I was heavily into road riding as well as mountain bike racing. I still have a couple of really nice bikes and I try to get out once in a while. I did a 50 mile Cancer Society benefit ride last year, my first ride of the season (like an idiot). A few years ago, this would have been no problem. Not this time. I sucked wind, cramped up, mumbled profanities, and finished after guys that rode 25 miles more than me. Good times.
 
That added muscle would be even more of an issue on a longer distance tri, and the wear and tear would add up more too.

Well even though you cant beat these guys a tri's, with your wrestling background its safe to say you kick those scrawny guys asses!
