Just need some advice for my wife who has hit "the wall" on loosing weight. She is 5'4" and has a few pounds to lose as she is over 200pds. She has lost about 20 already but cant lose anymore. She is following a weight watchers diet with counting calories, fat, fibre etc.... and works out hard in the gym 3-4 days a week. She will do about 30-45 mins of cardio on a running machine/treadmill/ and eliptical. She will then do a 12 machine circuit working every muscle group.

She is now starting to show signs of depression and all of her hard work from the past 15 weeks could go to waste if we dont find a solution.

Can anyone recommend a supplement or something else that can help keep the motivation there? I could have sworn clenbutrol years ago had good and bad effects on women, but if she can find a way of shedding the fat before she converts more of it into muscle, then we would love to know.

Thanks

weight watchers is shit imo.. if you want fast i would put her on a keto or carb cycle diet.. have her do 40min low intensity cardio EVERY DAY fasted (hr between 120 and 130) AND lifting 4-5 times a week

clen has the same effect on everyone basically gender doesnt matter and at 200lbs she needs to fix other things NOT use chemicals.. save the clen for when shes 15-20 lbs from her goal weight.. there is no way shes only physically naturally capable of losing 20lbs..

At 5'4" 200 lbs, and you say she has "a few" pounds to lose...is she a bodybuilder with a lot of muscle?

It comes down to calories in and calories out. She is either lying about what she is eating(which most do), or she has an underlying medical condition(unlikely).

She did not plan on being a female body builder by any means, but it seems from her workouts, she is turning her "bulk" into muscle and she is not liking it at all. She has always been fairly active and athletic and has the infamous ice skater thighs, and from gaining and losing weight from the 4 pregnancies, she has gained a lot of weight. Yes, I am being polite and not coming out and saying "Hey, my wife is fat", but stating, my wife is having trouble losing anymore weight. She has gone through two trainers and the last one stressed upon strengthening her core by giving her a workout specifically for that. Core training is great for just that, but does not help in losing the weight.

The last child birth was an emergency c-section and the doctors damaged the abdominal wall. This is where most of the bulk is and finding a way to lose the weight is hard when the muscles have been damaged. We are looking into having a abdomoplasty (tummy tuck) done just to at least repair the damaged wall, but the procedure is not cheap.

As for her nutrition intake, meh, I dont watch her all day, but she is fairly good with tracking what she eats and what the points are. We live on a limited budget as it is, so its not like she is eating crappy fast food when she is at work!

Thanks everyone for the help so far.

I'm not very familiar with how weight watchers works. It's helpful to know what a person is eating on a regular basis to offer suggestions for change.

As for diet, I recommend high protein, low/mod carb, low/mod fat. The the fat can be higher/carbs lower on non-training days, and carbs higher/fat lower on training days. Keep foods from whole food sources as much as possible. Remove process foods, refined and simple sugars (with the exception of fruit). 5-6 meals a day. If she puts on too much muscle, drop the protein and increase healthy fats proportionately.

200 lbs. at 5'4" is high, even if she has more muscle than a typical female. I think there is a lot that can be done via diet/cardio. If she is doing 3-4 days of cardio per week, increase it to 6-7 days. When she hits another plateau, increase duration.

Green tea pills can assist in fat loss, plus has other health benefits. Any OTC fatburner can help with extra energy and damper cravings a bit.

^ low fat diets are shit

Its a good way to precipitate a depression and crash a person's metabolism! You need plenty of omega fats...your body can't produce them ANY OTHER WAY...you need to be eating them

Flax oil, Fish oil, Hemp oil, Primrose oil....those are all good!

Eating a nice amount of fat also has the added benefit of curbing appetite...so if you are cutting...actually increasing fat can help you decrease total calories...because you feel 'fuller'...

the c section heals up fine...wife has had two..one emergency and second kid was a planned c section...she will heal fine enough to work out core and fat loss is not a spot loss thing, if diet and excercise she will lose fat everywhere...even if cant work out the core it doesnt mean she wont lose fat there from say running or swimming etc. trust me, my wife put on a LOT of weight from pregnancy and lost it all...1200 cal diet that eventually drops to 1000 cal a day...along with gym 4 times a week...its rough but if she wants it bad enough then that is what needs to be done...like stated above it is as easy as cals in and cals out

and especially if she is packing on muscel at same time she is taking in a lot of cals

it sounds like she is doing her best. but its never good enough. sometimes you have to swich up your diet and all for it to continue to work.
Do not concider any chemicals, for now she is way over weight and clenbuterol may have a negative effect on her heart.
Weight watchers? Is that the diet where you can eat sugary stuff?
Well it should be common sence to stay away from it!
Try to go on a low carb, high protein for a month. After that you have to do some research on good fats, good carbohydrate (with moderation).
Right now she is doing something wrong, and that is her diet.
Good luck!

Well thankfully after not listening to me, and listening to a trainer at the gym, she is now doing what I told her she should do... use more weights!!!

As for the Calorie intake, sometimes when you have 4 kids in the house, the budget meals are not the greatest for a person trying to eat properly. I am looking for food ideas that are inexpensive but are able to provide the proper nutrition that she requires.

Thanks everyone for their responses.

These are inexpensive and fast to make:

Meal 1: egg whites and oatmeal

Meal 2: Tuna, vegtables, apple

Meal 3: Low fat Cottage Cheese

Meal 4: Chicken breast, salad, olive oil & vinegar

Meal 5: Almonds
