Jakked Hardcore is going to host a show January 30th in Montgomery IL.
The format will be one catering to Master's competitors and those for whom the mobility requirements of many events tend to dissuade them from conventional strength athletics. Strength, not strength-endurance or timing-related things will be emphasized, but not a powerlifting meet to be sure. Here are the details:
Divisions: Open LW,MW,HW, Master's LW, Master's HW
Events:
1. Thick-Dumbell Press, max (2-hand clean, 1-hand press, or whatever)*
2. 12" Squat - ladder. Yoke will be used, set at 12" off floor on rolling stands. Competitor will select crossbar height, and perform squats at a minimum of 12" depth, clearing stands and stopping on the floor. Each squat will be reset on blocks, which must roll under the yoke base to count as a good lift. Increments will be 50 lbs, starting at 400-500 or so. Competitor will perform every squat in succession, though to speed things up (and save his energy where needed) he may elect to "pass" on any weight without getting either credit or eliminated. Competitor will continue at his discretion or until he fails an attempt. He will be credited for the heaviest successful lift.
3. Deadlift Medley
5 Axles of varying thickness, standard height from floor. Weights increase on each axle. Straps allowed. Split times will not be taken (axles must be safely separated and walking to them can take nearly as long as lifting them) but a total time limit will be imposed (~60 seconds).
4. Hercules Hold - timed. Rolling-thunder handles will be used.
5. Sandbag load to platform (48-54"). 5-6 bags from 175 up to 300 lbs, maybe 325 if necessary. Split times WILL be taken on this - you're only moving two feet over, and most of the time is spent loading.
*the dumbell press I am debating allowing a similarity to the '2-hands anyhow style', a 100-year-old odd lift when Thomas Inch was in his prime, where a competitor may elect to lift TWO thick dumbells of whatever weights in any way they see fit - only requirement is to do the press of each with one hand. This is very difficult to accomplish and does not necessarily net any advantage over ONE dumbell unless the competitor is very proficient at it, so it may be a novelty only. I'd ask for feedback if anyone thinks it's either a good idea or dumb as hell.
Also I welcome feedback about the other events - remember, though, while open to ANY competitor first-come-first-serve, the events are set up to cater to less limber competitors who love strength training, are more diversified than powerlifters (or are themselves powerlifters looking for something different), but can't do all the running around of a typical meet, like older men or those with minor disabilities in this regard, so any suggestions should have them in mind.
