In reality, the last years was the top 5, and previously the top 6.

Women complained in 2020 because the change was made weeks after the Olympia had finished. Irene Anderson was fifth place and was happy but then she found out that she was not classified and she had to win her place.

They should focus more on actual show production and broadcasting rather than making it harder for athletes make it to the Olympia. I see what they are doing but why bite the hand that feeds you. I wish the Rock's show that never happened would have happened and shake up the Olympia. I could see the Arnold trumping the MrO one day with prize money and production.

In the 80s and 90s maybe?

In the last decade I think it has always been the top 5, or even the top 6.

It's anyone's guess since the rules continually change.

i think they want the competitors to earn the qualification and work for it, also they want top pros to be active not just compete once a year

It does make the open guys look at competing earlier to qualify which helps with promoting their shows. Everyone knows promoters struggle without top names.

Agreed. I have said many times how piss poor the production and organization of the event is…

Driving up participation in smaller shows can generate more money but may get fans excited to see their favs more often. And may cause promoters to put more money into a show. In the end shows are not about the athlete or even th eaudience. They are a money making proposition. If shows do not make money they will be dropped.
