Bringing this one back because I really do enjoy listening to a great playlist while training and I look for ideas from others. Here is my "go to" playlist right now:
1. Rage Against the Machine (this is a given) but some of those deeper cuts on that first album are insane and worth re-visiting. Fistful of Steel, Township Rebellion, Freedom, Settle for Nothing, Wake Up and Take the Power Back. These got very little air time compared to the big hits, Killing in the Name, Bullet in the Head and Know your Enemy for example. Those 3 are amazing songs, but a bit overplayed. Drill down deeper into some RATM stuff and there are gems. That Renegades album is all covers by them... listen to Pistol Grip Pump, How I could just kill a man (Cypress Hill cover), I'm Housin (amazing song), and the Ghost of Tom Joad (Springsteen cover).
2. I am not a huge hip hop fan but the duo RUN THE JEWELS has a unique sound that is a great soundtrack for your workout. I recommend the songs, Call Ticketron, Run the Jewels (song name same as the band name), and Close your eyes and count to fuck (guest singer is the RATM singer).
3. Straight Edge punk band called xWEAPONx. They have a couple gems including, Paid in Blood, Intro, Brothers Blade, and Inclination to name a few. They only have about a dozen songs out but WeaponX brings the hard into hardcore.
4. 3rd Strike has a couple really good rap/metal hybrid songs like No Light and a mashup of the Sabbath song Paranoid.
5. Don't underestimate BODY COUNT. This is rapper Ice-T's side gig metal band. They do some great covers such as Raining Blood (Slayer), Ace of Spades (Motorhead) and a few good orginials such as Body Count's in the House and a metal version of the song Colors (from the movie Colors with Sean Penn).
6. For a single one song add, STROKE ME by Mickey Avalon is a perfect pump up song where he raps over the Billy Squire song The Stroke.
7. Single song, Worldwide Warfare by Landfill Crew (dudes from Rancid with some rap, punk, ska fusion). Catchy tune.
Feel free to pile on. And hopefully you will find a few gems in my recommendations.
