Hey bros,

i had asked for ideas to dress up another house i was buying but at the last moment that deal fell thru unfortunately. i think it was suppose to fall thru cause i got this big ole house that is move in ready but it needs just a bit of updating mainly in the kitchen.

First i would like my living area to have a clean but relaxing look.im thinking of adding some molding to the walls and poosibly 2 colors to them as well just dont know where to start.the windows need some kind of framing of some kind i think

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN7rMm8wHDk

second my kitchen, prolly the most work.im defeinatley getting granite counter tops.im prolly not going to change out the cabients sense there in good shape. i think they just need some detail like some molding. i also am thinking of making a bar ot of the wall where the dining room and kitchen are.
or shold i just knock it down.

next the other living area wit the fire place has the would paneling and will definatley b removed.

the master bed room i have no idea wat to do any help would b great.

I saw last week on one of those channels (hgtv?) a family needed a new kitchen. The wall separating the kitchen from the dining area was knocked out to give a more open feel. I see there is little counter space in there even if you put in a table in the empty corner.

I watched all the clips btw. I always felt uneasy about carpeting near a fireplace.

YES

I would just paint the kitchen walls and trim and leave the cabinets but replace those ugly countertops with granite. a wood floor in the room with the fireplace would be better for sure, overall looks good , just paint the walls, and be very careful if you are taking walls down yourself, some of them could be load bearing and will need to have a beam posted in the area where the wall was or you will be sorry.

Since I do remodels for a living, I will answer your question. How much money do you want to spend? I specialize in kitchen remodels, check on your load bearing walls, but I open 1 wall, to make that kitchen and house look bigger. In the kitchen, if the cabinets are all wood, you can re-finish them or paint them. That flooring is generic, cobblestone or custom tile looks good, make sure you lay tile right with a professional, ask me if you have questions. Floors have to be level, someone should know about proper floating. granite tops are nice, with maybe a custom tile backsplash. Paint the house 2 tone, maybe antique white for casings and navajo white for walls, cielings antique white. Add crown molding at 5-6" and baseboard at 4 ", all cheap, about .75 per foot, throughout house. Put in custom window covering. Install nice cieling lighting, look at places like lowes and home depot. I take out that ugly carpet and put in nice hardwood floors in your living and dining rooms for company. Any other questions, ask or PM me. Make sure you get references if you hire somone with jobs that you can see. Just because they say they are a contractor, does not make them good.

Congrats on this your new home!

This is approx what you have now, If you take better video w/more lighting from the family room and tell me what dimensions (thicknss) of walls A & B are, I can give you some better ideas.

I'm usually not this helpful, but as soon as I'm done with my work, I have to spend some time with my inlaws upstairs. If you catch my drift. BTW, the dimensions, are rough estimates from watching the video alone, but I'm pretty good at guessing dimensions from video and pics. (not that I do that in real life) Everything has to be verified to the last 1/4"

I can't really tell what that wall is between the kitchen and family room. It seems to be a bearing wall there, because it looks as if it's a 4" column right at the opening between the kitchen and Family room.

But If you can take better video from top to bottom from the kitchen looking into the family room and vice versa, with better lighting then, I can give an idea or two as can Pesty and maybe a few others.

All good advice, not only that, since so many contractors are out of work, you should be able to get a pretty good deal, but don't be tempted to go with the cheapest, as Pesty suggeted ask for references and see the work for yourself.

damn bro, how did you fiqure that out . the dining is 12 x 12.wow!!!!!!
im going to the house tommorow morning and i will take dimensions of the two walls.

Well, I may be been wrong in my original assessment of the bearing walls. You really should take more video especially the ceilings.
Try to determine which way the joists, or TJI's run.

The walls look to be about 5"er's is that a column and half wall? Again it was hard to tell from the video.

Maybe build that out into a counter, then follow Some of the other advice regarding the color schemes. I'm not really an interior decorator.

I can plan for space and tell you the codes are (in my state) but maybe some of the contractors/designers/architects in your area are better suited to give advice as to the rest, but I'm more than happy to offer my suggestions, feel free to PM me or ask right on here.

Good luck.
