overtraining question

Now there is a lot of bro-lore about over training, my question to everyone is doing a 5 day training scheme (mon.arms, tues.chest wed.back thurs.legs fri.delts) compared to doing a reg 3 day split (mon chest/back wed legs fri delts and arms). well actually here is the question I understood that the body needs 72hrs to fully heal the CNS so in THEORY wouldnt doing a 5 day scheme of things be overtraining? but for those of us that can only be in a gym 30 minutes out of the day due to busy schedules and can only do a 5 day routine...as opposed to a 3 day split. or is it over training if you work the same muscle more than once a week? someone help un confuse me.

I believe there are more factors that are to be considered than just the training split. You have the diet and the intensity of the workout to take into consideration and will have a major impact. But I know guys who can train 5 days a week and do not overtrain. However I am only in the gym 4 days a week or I will overtrain.

well of course there are other factors but lets just say diet is up to par and intensity is high training FST-7 style I guess the only way I can really find this out is if i do some trial and error..

You are correct. You may recover better than others. But I think training 5 days in a row is a bit too much. I would rather see at least 2 on, 1 off. Let us know how you feel in a couple weeks, also.

Here is my understanding of overtraining, coming from what ive heaerd from Dorian Yates. When you first start training your body grows and recovers faster than it ever will.

Well as you break down muscle and add aminos and proteins the body repairs. frows and recovers. Essentially becomes larger and stronger. But what doesn't grow is the human nervous system. Basically what this means is the larger and stronger you are the more rest you need.

Example. If you could deadlift 100 pounds for 10 reps when you first started training and 2 years later you can deadlift 400 pounds for 10 reps. Then you are creating 4x's the stress for your nervous system as you were when you first started training.

The more stress you put on the body the more rest it needs to recover

best gains I ever made was on a 2 on 1 off 2 on 2 off system where I trained 4 days a week.. so for me, I think more than that can lead to overtraining

maybe one of the more knowledgeable can speak to this but wouldnt there also be something to say that you can train 7 days per week without overtraining...but after how many consecutive routines can you go without a break before overtraining...so what i am saying is i dont think you can arbitrarily say that x amount of days of training per week is overtraining...it is just at what point does your cns need a little break to recover and get back to it?

Listen to your body. It tends to let you know when you are pushing it too hard. If you feel run down and are not recovering between training sessions then chances are you need more rest or better nutrition. I know you want to learn as much as humanly possible about the sport, but you think way too much. You seem to over complicate everything which just keeps you switching gears constantly. Just be consistent and train. The muscle will come.

love it when you post awn!!

yes

this works best for me too. a scheduled week off every 10 weeks or so will also do wonders for you.

personally for me two on one off is the system i use right now. the one day off really helps with recovery to me. but listen to your body, if you still feel a little slow the next day dont train just rest and recuperate. if you have a real intense workout one day the next you might not have the energy to work out at all the next day. just be instinctive is the best advice i can give

TAKE A WEEK OFF AND YOU WILL COME BACK STRONGER THEN THE LAST WEEK

I think overtraining can be an individual thing as well.If you have a stressfull or labour job can affect the amount you can train. And of course nutrition which has been stated alot.Train as hard as you can & watch for the tell tale signs of overtraining.I also believe in controled overtraing for new growth. If your are not already overtraining.Dont confuse overtraing with a platue.Taking a week off once in a while works wonders. When going on holidays with family or friends,do just that dont be concerned where the closest gym is.

Just my opinion

QUESTION

Why do Olympic level weightlifters train 6 days a week? Chinese weightlifters, strongest in the world. Their work would be overtraining to us. Kevin Nee, pro strong man, does lifting and strongman events every day with no rest. What do these guys do that enable them to train as much as they do?

who keeps switching up gear? ive been natural for months amigo, just wanna see what others try for training splits so i can give them a go and see what my body feels comfy doing, I am in no rush for the next lb, I just love to workout..thats all there is to it.
wow so you question both phil hernon and AWN?? wow

just to educate you a lil (you obviously need it) Awn was talking about changing from one thing to another..aka switching gears (like a car) not gear as in AAS.

you might wanna read up a lot on this board before you go "barking" at very bright minds on this board bro. Just a suggestion! :(
