Partial deadlifts..benefits???

I have always deadlifted the regular way off the floor,and I know that it adds a great thick solid look to my body.I have read alot of bodybuilders are now doing partials instead of full lifts.What benefit is there to doing deads in a power rack in a partial fashion?And how high should the pins be set??? Im thinking it will allow alot more weight to be used,but would like to know the proper protocol to follow and if it does make a difference......
 
Ive always done them in a rack pins set right below knee level , It takes most of the leg work out and you can use alot more weight ,they are great for back thickness ,and since Im 6'5" it makes life a little easier
 
BN.....WHEN I WAS POWERLIFTING...

I'D DO PARTIAL DEADS TO WORK ON WEAK AREAS OF THE LIFT. SOME GUYS HAVE TROUBLE LOCKING IT OUT AT THE TOP AND SO WE'D DO THEM WITH THE PINS SET SO THE BAR WOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE KNEE CAPS. [YEAH, AND AN ASSLOAD MORE WEIGHT COULD BE LIFTED....AS YOU CAN IMAGINE.] SOMETIMES JUST GETTING USED TO THE FEEL OF A HEAVIER WEIGHT CAN BE PRETTY BENEFICIAL IF STRENGTH IS YOUR GAME. I DID PARTIALS TO OVER COME PSHYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS TO LIFTING MORE WEIGHT. SQUATTING 650LBS AT A MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME WAS SCARY FOR ME, HELL JUST GETTING UNDER THE WEIGHT IS NASTY AND FELT LIKE THE WORLD WAS ON MY SHOULDERS. [I AM QUITE AWARE THAT THERE ARE STRONGER GUYS THAN ME OUT THERE, BUT I STILL AM AMUSED WHEN I SEE SOMEONE POST ABOUT HOW THEY ARE SQUATTING 600 FOR 10 REPS! I WANT TO SEE IT! HAHA] WE STARTED DOING WHAT WE CALLED HEAVY WALK OUTS WITH THE BAR LOADED WITH MORE THAN WE COULD SQUAT AS WELL AS HEAVY PARTIAL SQUATS WHICH REALLY HELPS GETTING USED TO LIFTING HEAVIER WEIGHT. AS FAR AS BODYBUILDING APPLICATIONS?? I GUESS IT COULD WORK....I JUST THINK UNLESS YOU ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO COMPETE IN POWERLIFTING DOING LIMIT SINGLES, THAT THERE ARE OTHER SAFER THINGS A FELLA COULD SPEND TIME DOING AND NOT HERNIATE HIMSELF IN THE PROCESS! HAHAHAAH......THAT'S MY LONG DRAWN OUT B.S ANSWER.:D
 
I do the partials on back day. One reason is because I dont want it to interfere with my recovery for leg day, which is 2 days later. I set the pis just below the knees. Did them yesterday, infact. :D
